Soon the government will be able to send you text messages and amber alerts. Liberals always try to paper over government intrusion into our lives with noise about how it will be good for us (itll make us all safer!).
Well be able to opt out of these invasions, except for messages from the president. Messages from the king cannot be turned off. So we can ignore directions from Michelle about what to have for lunch, but not Obamas incessant campaigning.
Our Founding Fathers didnt presage cellular technology but they were pretty clear about our rights to be free from government intrusion.
This how liberals always do it, they push a nose under the tent under the guise of somehow being good for someone. Once they get into the tent, they will wreak no end of havoc and they have no plans to leave.
Yes, Tsunamis ARE predictable, but the earthquakes that cause them are NOT.
When there is an earthquake, the tsunami that follows is quite predictable.
There were Tsunami watches even in the Philippines, following the Japan quake.

You are surely joking. There is no way they will leave it unused except for nuclear war. When they have a tool that allows text messages to go to every phone in America, they will abuse it. Im tired of justifying every government intrusion by saying how it would have made 911 better. Its enough.
Seriously, a good answer would be appreciated. Consider also that the man in question has a great set of web development skills, and that might factor into the selection too.
I learned that during a crisis the phone company can and will just shut down certain area codes where the crisis is. Additionally, during a crisis, the phones can be overloaded and cease to work in your area code (as happened here during the last snow storm).
If you want to be assured of a phone that works, have an additional one with a different area code from where you live.
That answer shifts too rapidly to be meaningful in any but the short term. Now? New Zealand, Uruguay, lots of places. America has a long way to go yet. Even in worst-case, I think the best parts of the formerly United States will be better than most of the world.
like frogs in a pot of cool water cooking on the stove....
every little thing seems so innocent doesn't it.....those Onstar gadgets on cars, the new drivers licenses with a little chip in it for tracking, the govt tracking every little move you make....
That is a GREAT tip Grammy!
This is a major theme of my new book: trying to fly under the electronic radar.
And how long will it be until they also need the ability to selectively kill the cell phones in a city? You know, so the ‘ important’ calls can go first. (also handy if a bunch of people are spreading the word about something they would rather not have so organized)
oh well, I’m sure they only care about we the people, not the goals of government..
The history of our budding dictatorship shows that we think it will be a tool for the next 9/11. But what will happen is that a future TEA event in DC will be deemed a riot. Emergency text messages wil go out. Then all phones will be useless except to receive government’s ‘information’.
That's a little scary right there. In other words, where you go may crap up on you quick.
Now? New Zealand, Uruguay, lots of places.
I actually looked at Uruguay. I suspect they'd like a fellow with my skills. Not so much in New Zealand, what with its far-more-remote and agrarian nature.
America has a long way to go yet. Even in worst-case, I think the best parts of the formerly United States will be better than most of the world.
If the country breaks up, we have a chance - I'd be in the Texas / Southern country. If not, not so much. Due to the increasing technology emergance, the tools of totalitarianism are far more invasively-placed here in America, and they can accomplish it all so much easier than in far less techy countries. I do not rate America as a Buy, I rate her as a Sell.
The Samsung T105G will dial 911 even if it is locked if a certain sequence of keys is pressed, and it happened in my pocket.
This is a safety feature courtesy of the busybodies in DC.
I didn't know there are tracking chips in drivers licenses. Do you have any info on that to link me to? Thanks.
Oh, well, Amber Alerts.... It’s for the Chillin’s after all.
RomneyCellphoneCare would take care of those too poor to own cell phones: they’d get taxed a penalty for not having one—and still be left to the terrorists.
Methinks you give the government too much credit. A cel phone is basically a hand-held radio and can be easily jammed or disabled.
how long will it take for someone to develop the block Obama BS texting ap?
This was done long ago. It is a WPS *272 call.

You all are busting my balls here, I’m just pointing out that this stuff is already in use in the United States,
Reverse911 has been implementing a cellular /SMS/MMS texting based system in Tennessee and elsewhere for a year...

The government bodies sit on
National Emergency Number Association (NENA) NG9-1-1 committees and have built out the technology standards already, most of the technology is already legally required of landline and cellular phone carriers...
