The poor in America
Orange Punch, the commentary blog of the Orange County Register ^ | 4-25-2011 | Mark Landsbaum

We are rightly concerned with the poor, who always will be with us and to whom we owe our support and aid. Of course, it’s quite another thing for the government to take from you to give to the poor. The presumption that the government can be compassionate with someone else’s money is absurd on the face of it.

Robin Hood was a thief first, and the ends don’t justify the means. Every theft does someone some good. But that doesn’t justify theft.

But being poor is quite another thing in itself. What is poverty? . . .

Feerget the American poor. Lets spend trillions on Iraq, Afghanistan, Outer Mongolia, and Libya, and lets continue to support the U.N., and the world, in countries that hate us with tens of hundreds of billions in foreign aid.

There are lots of people in the United States who are poor:

not enough food to eat

insufficient shelter from the cold

threadbare clothes

Pretending those conditions to be rare comes across as delusional and mean-spirited, as well as anti-Christian.

“There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs, partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”… Booker T. Washington …1904 quote

“I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it.” -Ben Franklin, 1766

How do ya do that with tens of millions with no jobs and not enough jobs? Maybe importing tens of hundreds of thousands of foreigners and millions of low wage illegal aliens? I don't see how that helps.

We have overproduced our existing crop of poor people. They are growing too large as a percent of our population.

“Robin Hood was a thief first”

One of the first and biggest victories of marxist propaganda: Perverting the children’s story of Robinhood (Robert of Loxely). Who did he steal from? Not “the rich,” but the TAX COLLECTORS.

Breech of etiquette. I forgot to ping you to post #8.

But then you probably wouldn’t notice. Other than the post I quoted, I couldn’t find an instance of you actually commenting in the 44 threads you’ve posted.

Fair enough, and it is going to get worse. So what is your solution?

Pretending those conditions to be rare comes across as delusional...

Bravo Sierra. That's Mexico, not the United States.

Poor in this country are more likely to be overweight than want for sufficient calories. I'm sure that you can come up with an example or two, but if by "lots of people" you mean a meaningful percentage of the population ... say, 5-10%, (or even 1%) you're full of beans.

Grandmother from the old country - “Who are those dirty people?”

Me - “Homeless”

Grandma - “Homeless?”

Me - “Yeah Grandma, like poor people”

Grandma - “But they’re fat! Ayah! If they are fat, they eat! So they can’t be poor.”

Me - “Well that’s how it works here Grandma.”

Grandma - “What a crazy place.”

Step 1) Unelect as many RINOs as possible..
Step 2) HIJack the House and the Senate...
Step 3) Elect a President thats not a traitor..
Step 4) De-Fund as many federal programs as possible..
Step 5) Get rid of those programs and pass legislation forbidding re-creating them.. Step 6) Investigate George Soros and anything he is connected to or that be created..
Step 7) Get rid of the federal reserve and investigate and possibly prosecute some of them..
Step 8) Find Sandy Berger and perp walk his skinny ass into Levinworth..

Tell that to those in the United States who are cold and hungry, with holes in their shoes and little hope on the horizon.

The myth of the poor not really being poor is just an excuse to look the other way and not help.

Yep - he was a patriot!

If he had stolen from the rich he would have just been a community organizer.
