One gambit of gun banners is to promote sensible gun laws that increase firearms costs, ensuring that fewer Americans can afford guns.
Yesterday, Congressman Mike Quigley (D, IL-5) announced his TRACE (Trafficking Reduction and Criminal Enforcement) Act. Ostensibly, this will give the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) a greater ability to identify the source of illicit guns and choke off the supply to traffickers.
TRACE requires:
* A second, hidden serial number on every gun.
* Maintaining background check records for 60 days, instead of the current 24 hours.
* gun dealers to perform inventory checks to report lost and stolen guns.
These requirements will drive up prices by:
* Increasing manufacturing costs.
* Creating larger, more expensive government via additional data processing and storage.
* Increase firearms dealers overhead.
Gun control benefits the wealthiest Americans, by ensuring only they can afford guns. For example, the District of Columbia has the toughest gun control laws in America. Recently, the Washington Post reported:
In the 2½ years since the U.S. Supreme Court ended the Districts handgun ban, hundreds of residents in Washingtons safest, most well-to-do neighborhoods have armed themselves, registering far more guns than people in poorer, crime-plagued areas of the city, according to D.C. police data.
In 2008, Democrats became the biggest recipients of corporate campaign contributions. Now the new party of big business wants to disarm the people who mistakenly voted for the mythical party of the little guy.
I think my head is going to explode this morning. You know that little vein that runs from the nose to the top of the skull? Yeah, mine’s bulging this morning from all of this garbage anti-gun crap in the news.
Obama’s winning the media war due to a complicit press.
Next it will be “well if you can afford a gun, you’ve got too much money”.
You got that right. And is why 'The Donald' can get a concealed carry permit in NYC. But a FReeper from NYC could no longer afford the yearly costs for his regular; 'keep it at home gun permit' (not a CCW).
Can't recall the FReeper's name. (my bad)
That's not good, all headaches suck. But no real need to worry about that little vein.
It's the Big Vein on the Left Side of your Neck you have to worry about.
If that's throbbing, you 'can' have a real problem.
That's were *most* operations are performed in order to prevent a stroke.
The anti-gun crap’s gotta stop. The American public has grown intelligent enough to understand that firearms are tools best handled by Freedom-loving Americans. We don’t need government intervention, but it’s continuing to creep and I daresay it’s beginning to eclipse the skies around us.
I concur. And I assume you've heard about Cass Sunstein's latest attempt at an end run around the Constitution and 2A with the ATF.
His attack is now on Shotguns. He wants to 'redefine' what a Shotgun 'IS', and if its 'suitable for sporting purposes'. If not (by his definition), he wants the ATF to 'regulate them' OUT OF EXISTENCE! His current 'target' (pun intended) is the Saiga 12ga autoloader with the detachable magazine.
Glenn Beck doesn't call Sunstein the most dangerous person in America for nothing, Sunstein is EVIL!
“Target” these a$$holes!Bad word?Fk em!
MOLON LABE
The only problem is, they'd likely enjoy it. Barney Fwank would be 1st in line.
But 'sereis', I'd start buying every 'Home Defense' shotgun now. From the Mossberg, Maverick (same as Mossberg but cheaper), Remington, Winchester, etc. H&R even makes one now. Including getting the ex-Leo shotguns with the shorter barrels and 5 round magazines.
As after the Ruskie Saiga import shotgun, Sunstein will have the ATF go after the American Made 'Assault Shotguns' (that's what he's calling them).
I'm gonna be going into the 'Cookie Jar Money' pdq.
Calm down, this flurry of anti-gun crap is meant as distraction. The Dems know the House will not pass any anti-gun laws. They are trying to distract from the absolute total mess the economy is in also to push down the Gunwalker story. It is often said the best defense is a good offense. They defend themselves by launching an attack on gun owners.
The problem with that line of reasoning is that Obama and his ilk don’t care about Congress. This is bordering on totalitarian, and Obama is going to continue to use Executive Orders to make law. The Republic is lost already. Congress won’t step up to “check and balance” the Executive branch; they’re complicit!
Or simply, "If you can afford a gun, surely you can afford to pay a little higher tax!"
This is the Euro model. What people don’t understand is, you can do anything yo want in Europe, if you can afford it. Problem is, only the elites can afford anything and typically the elites are old money.
That's pretty much it. They'll figure if you can still afford a gun, you need to have your taxes raised some more.
I ran into this overseas. It has its positive side. If you are a gun person, know how to shoot and are knowledgeable about guns, you are considered to be a member of the “elite” and are often welcomed into their society.
Is this the same ATF that illegally ran guns to the Mexican Cartel?
Molon labe indeed.
Come take them...and then Welcome to Hell. More than happy to escort them there.
April 19, 1775 started off with an attempted gun confiscation too.
Didn’t work out so well for the Jackboot.
There’s no reason a brand new .38 revolver should cost more than $150. There’s just not that much to them.
