Call me a cynic, but I've been dubious about just how accidental were President Obama's supposedly "hot mic" remarks about his budget negotations with the Republicans.
Does a president who has been frequently criticized for a lack of toughness really mind being "caught" sounding muy macho?
My skepticism was sharpened by GMA's report on the matter this morning. The graphic referred to Obama's "tough talk." And for good measure, John Avlon of the lefty Daily Beast was imported to declare that the president's supposedly candid performance "heightens his reputation for leadership." I know what you're thinking: what reputation?

That’s one leftie’s opinion. I heard an angry, anti-American rant. That’s not “leadership”. That means somebody needs a diaper change or needs get the hell out of this country and maybe move to North Korea or Havana.

The timing of this couldn’t be more fortuitous- just after endless criticism of his lack of leadership in the budget negotiations and the illegal Libyan war.
Since when is talking tough behind someone’s back considered leadership?

My first thought on hearing that the “whistle-blowing” reporter was Mark Knoeller was — he would never publicize those entire “captured” comments without permission from the Obama team.

Finkelstein = me, governsleast, and the comment was made facetiously, as the Spanish language version was intended to imply. Reading the entire post I think you’ll see it was quite critical of the president.

Very enlightening. You're right, Knoeller is a totally domesticated lapdog of the administration. He wouldn't have disclosed this unless he was told to by the White House.
