The 27-year-old beauty said: “I am a blood type A and more often than not I eat specifically for my blood type. I also eat low GI, high alkaline foods, drink filtered water and eat mostly fresh produce and very little meat.

That is wrong. The nutrition in an organic piece of produce vs. A nonorganic one may be the same, the same vitamins, etc. But remember that there would be far less pesticides and herbicides in the organic one!!! You will not feel sick after eating one apple’s worth of pesticides and herbicides, but eating this produce every day for years will up your risk of cancer and chronic neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Lou gherig’s, MS, RA, etc. Astronomically.

Whoa! Hold on. Take a deep breath!

Please do not insult me, especially by implied connections to negative attributes - like I am "probably" one of those people who listen to the govt for nutrition advice. You dont know anything about me. You certainly cannot possibly surmise I do that based on a simple questioning of what you consider to be right and proper.

To be clear. I don't dispute that what you eat impacts your body in every way - I was not implying otherwise. What I was saying was that although your diet is a very important component to your overall health and happiness, there are a great many other factors which affect it a great deal more. Genetics, upbringing, stable relationships, positive attitudes, type of employment (if any), gender, social pressure...that's just a few off the top of my head.

Yes but the problem is that the definition of what constitutes a "healthy, balanced diet" seems to change from one month to the next. The obvious corollory being that there can't be any such thing because not enough is known about Human nutrition.

Personally (as far as diet goes) I think moderation in all things won't do you too much harm.

exactly, but it is propagandized as a prevention of such disease. seeing that organic and healthy diets will cost you like 45 % more than a diet not organic, it has an effect economically .

To be completely honest, if I had to purchase organic groceries only, we would die of starvation. The cost is absolutely prohibitive. Processed foods cost little compared to making it homemade (for example, boxed macaroni and cheese vs. making it yourself). I guess it is all about compromise. I use pre-packaged foods as sparingly as possible but genetics is a huge deal with disease and conditions. Know one guy with perfect cholesterol... eats fried food, steak and cheese subs twice a week, fries, drinks beer and smokes. Know a woman who is petite and very thin. Her cholesterol since her early 20’s has scored off the charts. Pure genes. Her family has a history of high cholesterol... hers remains high with medication, and a very strict diet.

True.

No offence, but if you feel different after eating differnt foods...have you ever considered the possibility you may have an allergy to certain food groups?

I discovered that I had no less than seven, and not eating them certainly had an effect on me.

Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies.......eat meat sparingly. And do not eat processed foods. Eat organic as much as possible. Do not OVEREAT! It’s simple. Why does everyone make it so hard?

Not really, I don’t think too many people would suggest a diet limited to bananas is balanced or healthy. Things like that are pushed as the secret to lose weight.

I would agree that nutritionists educated in our universities don’t have a good understanding. Oh they can tell you how many calories something has and what vitamins are in it. They cannot tell you how to adjust your diet to improve your health.

No, the woman THINKS the diet works for her. Because we have no access to a parallel dimension where she eats otherwise we don’t know what her health would be like on some other diet.

Food can have an impact on how people feel, but that impact depends on the person. What we’re learning more and more is that it’s genetics. They’ve basically admitted it already with cholesterol, and diabetes, and celiac. Just look at the history of dietary advise and eggs, they were good, they were bad, part of them was good and the other part bad, then those reversed. Diet matters yes, but the diet that works for you might put me in the hospital in under a week. Your genetics are the foundation, the diet is the bricks, doesn’t matter how good your bricks are if you aren’t matching them up with the foundation the house is coming down.

The answer that would come back from that is that if eveyrone bought organic the price would soon drop. I agree though. At the moment the cost is prohibitive.

That might be because we are all individuals and what constitutes an ideal diet is probably unique to each of us!

I know of a guy that never ate a piece of meat in his life, ever. He worked out, ran marathons, was a total vegan from birth, stayed away from anything not organic his entire life; was raised by hippies on a commune…and dropped dead of a massive coronary at the age of 40. Dead as a doornail. No warning signs. Not kidding. This guy was the extreme of organic, began, “natural” life. One problem: He never saw a doctor. Never. Went to “holistic” medicine men instead. He never had his blood pressure checked nor had any blood work done that could have told him of the issue that he genetically had.

The point is that genetics plays a significant role in everyone’s life. Any doctor will tell you that healthy eating, exercise, and seeing your doctor for routine checkups are all important players to a healthy life. I’ve never had a doctor tell me to stay away from anything not “organic”, or to stop eating meats, or to even stop drinking.

I’m type A and I’ll about die without a good steady dose of meat protein.

I try to keep the protein, carbs, and fat in equal proportion. I also drink lots of water and eat tons of vegetables - organically raised and well fertilized - from the garden. I do that for the vitamins, the lack of chemicals, and the taste. Store bought produce is 90% of the time just nasty.

I got some weight on me but not much, maybe 25 pounds, alot of which disappears in the summer (the double benefit of gardening). Arteries are clean and everything is in good shape.

But maybe she isn’t. We don’t know what the doctor report is, and we don’t know if she could be healthier.

IMO it doesn’t have to be “organic”. It should be natural and unprocessed though.
