Let's not think about BP saying that her tax caused them to decrease investment in Alaska....it hurts our head.
Apparently, you missed the smackdown Palin gave the NYT about the mythical windfall profits tax.
You are a LIAR and I think you should be dumped from FR for continuing, time after time after time, to repeat this lie at a time when the very future of our freedom and country is at stake. You are a traitor of the most odious nature -- you are as bad as Obama, pal.
Moderator, what wtc911 refers to was not a tax, it was not based on profits, and it sure as hell wasn't based on windfall profits. It was a complex revamping of the royalties structure when oil companies drilled on state-owned land in Alaska, and as another poster mentioned above, the Alaskan state constitution governs that very differently than any other state, and the oil companies go in there with their eyes wide open.
wtc911 lies and uses the term "windfall profits tax" because he know it is a buzz-term that strikes fear into the hearts of free-market conservatives, and that actual investigation and education to understand and analyze it is time-consuming and complex, so he is counting on most people making it a "his word against hers" instead of actually understanding the issue and inevitably realizing that the term "windfall profits tax" is a pure progaganda-inspired lie.
Truly, I think wtc911 deserves the Zot, and I have NEVER said that about any fellow FReeper ever since I've been here, and that's about 10 years.
Do you mean our Permanent Fund Dividend checks? These come as dividends to stockholders. A percentage of oil royalties paid to the State are invested in a Permanent Fund, which is in turn invested in the national and international market. Once each year, the dividends on these investments are calculated and divided among the stockholders (thats us, we Alaskans). Sarah Palin was not the designer of, nor had she anything to do with this program. It was put into place before the pipeline was built, back in the Seventies.
