Longtime New York Times columnist Bob Herbert announced Friday that he was leaving The Times to contribute to a vague new progressive media endeavor.
Herbert began writing for The Times in 1993. Jeremy Peters wrote in the Media Decoder section of The Times that Herbert “was known for his combative style, blunt language and progressive politics.”
“I am leaving The New York Times and the rewards and rigors of daily journalism with the intent of writing more expansively and more aggressively about the injustices visited on working people, the poor and the many others in our society who find themselves on the wrong side of power,” Herbert wrote.
Herbert continued, “sometimes a mission presents itself, and I could not look in the mirror if I did not respond.” He did not share his plans with The Times.
Jim Romenesko reported on Poynter that Herbert’s resignation letter stated, “I am writing a book called ‘Wounded Colossus’ about some of the great challenges facing the United States and will be part of a new, soon-to-be-announced effort to help bolster progressive journalism in the cause of a more generous and just America.”

It is interesting that so many long time NY Times writers are jumping ship. Hopefully, this means that there are serious financial issues going on at the paper and these socialists are looking for work elsewhere.

This coming from a guy who lives in one of Donald Trump’s luxury condos on the Upper West Side.
And he doesn’t pay property taxes on his multi-million dollar condo because of a tax abatement for the building, too, just like A-Rod.
Bob Herbert is one of those evil rich people. If he cared so much about the poor people, he’d sell his multi-million dollar Trump apartment and pay all of the property taxes he’s avoided due to the tax abatement he’s received while owning it.
It is not that they are dense. They are motivated and blinded by their prejudices. They hate Western Culture and are bent on destroying it.
50% of the current editorial staff will be cut within 3 years. They need to move to a Huffington Post model as soon as possible and convert a majority of their paid workforce to slave labor. The clock is ticking.

Well that “mysterious, progressive journalism project” CAN’T be the aggressive shilling for Hussein. Herberts been doing that for years!
For years, Herbert has competed with Mo Dowd for the prize as worst stylist with fewest ideas on the OpEd page.
I think Dowd has him beat. She is glaringly bad, and he is just dismally bad.
Strange thing is Herbert was a fairly good columnist when he worked at the NY Daily News. He was a liberal, but a liberal without the normal leftist acute hatred of everything non-liberal. As soon as he became a Times writer, all that stopped immediately and he became the thing he is today. Expect the Gay Mafia who control the Times newsroom to select one of their own to replace him.
