Strange thing is Herbert was a fairly good columnist when he worked at the NY Daily News. He was a liberal, but a liberal without the normal leftist acute hatred of everything non-liberal. As soon as he became a Times writer, all that stopped immediately and he became the thing he is today. Expect the Gay Mafia who control the Times newsroom to select one of their own to replace him.
