Remember When You Could Buy These Firearms By Mail Order Before The Gun Control Act of 1968?

Prior to the Gun Control Act of 1968, you could buy almost any firearm that struck your fancy by mail order. Many of us received copies of gun and outdoors magazines back then. In addition to being chocked full of interesting articles on hunting, the history, use, and maintenance of your firearms, you could buy guns directly by mail from a host of gun dealers who advertised in these magazines. Pay the price and the shipping and your gun would be delivered directly to your home by an agent of the United States Government, the postman.

We have pictured here an assortment of mail order firearm advertisements from 1964 to 1967. Its amazing what $24.00 to $39.00 or so could bring to your door. Or, try this one. For a little more, how about an M1 Garand direct to your door for $79.99 plus $1.00 postage? These ads will be a shocker to anyone who doesn't know about the freedom of mail order back then. They will be nostalgic and painful for those of us who miss those salad days.

Not quite, If the package weighed over 70 pounds- and most of them with a case of ammo thrown in did- they had to come shipped by truck, or more commonly, by Railway Express. I also recall getting my German 8mm ammo for $4.00 a hundred if I bought 900-round case lots.

Yeah, I recall the Solothurn AT rifles. But the L/39 Lahti 20mm Norsupyssy was considerably more accurate.

We were free before Teddy and Woodrow...those two set the path we are on...

Questions to ask people...

Ask a conservative how many progressive programs they are willing to give up?

Ask a progressive how many conservative programs they are willing to give up?

Unfortunately until conservatives wake up and ditch their progressive crack we will not save this nation.

hehehe...i injected that IMO, the political power and influence, combined with the 'sky is falling' mentality of the brass, is always about the money in the end...

indeed, their 'comfort zone' lies in the fact that they will continue to find middle of the road discussions regarding the absolute wording of the 2A...and prolly are being handsomly rewarded, monetarily and 'influencially, by the same vermin that are sposed to be their enemies, all the while milking their own membership to perpetuate the kabuki...

Re: And we do nothing

If we do something (the way the Founders did) we become Felons and lose our gun rights.

I do not hold out much hope for the future of this nation.

And I will support the NRA once they challenge GCA68......not until then.

I kind of agree with your assessment.

The NRA should be championing gun rights with the same zeal as the ACLU champions the 1A.

Does anyone believe this is then case? If so, I have a bridge to sell you.

Liberalism is more of a disease than a political ideal...

Just my opinion...

That was before we became “civilized”. Now that we are “civilized” it takes more laws to control the slaves. And one of the rules is that slaves cannot oen or possess weapons without the master’s [Government] consent. The slaves let go a resounding.YEA! But you have to gives free drugs, sex, and money. It has been done.

Used to pour over those ads. But keep in mind that $1 in 1960 is $7 today, so the prices aren't quite the bargains they appear to be. Not that I'd turn the deals down in modern dollars.

I also remember ordering an M1911 in 1959, stewing for a couple of months and then having the vendor offer me a Radom instead. Those ads weren't always on the up-and-up.

They only thing that progressives want is to progressively take away your rights until they control ever moment of your life.

This used to be a hell of a good country...

it did. My regret is that I mostly missed it. I was born in '68, the year the inmates made thier big play to run the asylum.

I was born in '63, the same year the last patriotic Democrat in America was assassinated.

“...If we do something (the way the Founders did) we become Felons and lose our gun rights...”

My good PA brother...you don’t LOSE gun rights. You don’t LOSE ANYTHING unless you LET it be taken from you.

The Founders decided that it was better to be “felons” than live under a system they considered oppressive. And for the record, what THEY found oppressive was a HELL of a lot less than anything we’ve put up with for the last many decades.

Nobody will take my rights. They can pass all the “laws” they want. I’ll do as I always do.

F*** ‘em.

If we’re to call ourselves Free Men, and believe ourselves to be so, we need to act like it.

A fight’s coming, whether we want it or not. The only good thing is, right is on our side, for whatever it’s worth.

And a good free man, backed into a corner, and fighting for his liberty and his right to BE free, is a truly dangerous thing to behold. Even if he dies in the attempt to retain it.

We all die eventually, brother. It’s what you die FOR that matters in the end. Nobody lives forever. But the IDEA of liberty does.

That’s up to us to pass on. If even ONE of us sticks a giant middle finger up at “the powers that be” and says “HEY! F*** YOU! I’M AN AMERICAN”, we win.

They can kill us, they can imprison us, they can take all that we have, but they can’t kill that idea in us, nor in those we teach.

And that’s what keeps THEM awake at night...and why I can sleep soundly.

Funny you should mention that; I happen to be a bridge investor.
