Terror threats rising as FEMA orders $1 Billion in dehydrated food (Prepper Ping!)
Examiner ^ | Feb 24,2011

Terror threats appear to be on the rise as FEMA has rushed a $1 Billion order of dehydrated food in the event of attacks on domestic targets in the US.

This is also coming on the heels of one of the largest terror drills performed by the US Navy on American soil, as Operation Solid Curtain is taking place this week.

In an article Tuesday from the Beaufort Observer, many of the largest suppliers of dehydrated foods in the country are dropping their distributors and customers to dedicate their resources to supplying a billion dollar FEMA request and purchase.

Terrorist threats to our food supply is the method they used to con the House and Senate into passing the FDA Food Takeover Bill in the Lame Duck Session.

I am not buying the line on that. We have a simple solution, grow most of the food locally.

Instead they are spending 1.4 billion dollars and hiring 15-17,000 new FDA food inspectors. Another TSA type fiasco, union idiot running the screening.

I think its called “continuity of government”. So the govt elites will be sitting up in the bunkers and we are all outside pounding on the door. You, me and the rest of John Q. Public wont’ be seeing any of that dehydrated food. Buy your own and get it soon.

Is there a source for this other than examiner blog?

Have you tried to purchase from Provident Pantry, Freeze Dry Guy, or Mountain House lately? Place an order and receive all the evidence you need from a great source - yourself. The list of my purchases on backorder exceeds what has been shipped to me.

“For terror attacks or martial law?”

For the Reichstag Fire that provides an excuse for martial law?

“If anything, this government has probably ordered to food for themselves.”

Nah, they’ve got plenty in the taxpayer supplied bunkers. It’s probably for the serfs they’ll need when they come out.

The RFP called for a 10-day supply of meals - for 14 million people. That's 420 million meals.

From your link. True or not, whatever. So, does that mean "they" are expecting to feed 14 million for 10 days or does that mean "they" are expecting to feed a much smaller number for a much longer period of time? Would that much smaller number be in a specified area (attack zone) or would take be a specified group (government officials)?

I saw that earlier this week. It raised the hairs on the back of my neck.

Obama’s executive order on Feb. 25 placed us under a national emergency. Supposedly about Libya, he likely has other plans.

you can plant taters in stacked tires too and just pull off a tire full of them as needed...

This isn’t about terror threats - they are expecting the New Madrid earthquake and note the NLE exercise info below.

FEMA is really pumping up the articles for the New Madrid to go. There are tons of articles out there just in the past week.

The purpose of National Level Exercise 2011 (NLE 2011) is to prepare and coordinate a multiple-jurisdictional integrated response to a national catastrophic event – specifically a major earthquake in the central United States region of the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ).

This has already been figured out elsewhere.

1) This is going to be an awful year, internationally, for food supply in many countries.

2) The US doesn’t really need this much food in FEMA storage. Otherwise, we have more than enough to feed ourselves. We even had too much food during the Dust Bowl, when perhaps 30,000 family farms were wiped out from Texas to Canada. The remaining farmers still produced too much food.

3) Obama is planning that if there are food riots in one or more friendly countries, he can give them our FEMA stores, to take the pressure off.

4) There is no way the Republicans would appropriate this much food “to be given away to foreigners”, which is why it is being done through FEMA, an agency they *will* appropriate emergency supplies for.

5) There is also a slim opportunity that North Korea could be so desperate for food that they would give up their nuclear program. Slim, but even slim odds are an opportunity that we might not want to miss.

We used to have a small food dehydrator years ago but I don’t recall what happened to it. Where do you suggest looking for another one?

I wanted to learn how to do this firsthand now, while I can still look up stuff online.

That's smart. Whenever you run across a How-To print it out right then so you know you'll have access to it when you need it. Otherwise, if the internet goes down and the electricity is cut, well...

A New Madrid gigantic earthquake would be far worse than anything terrorists can do to us.

I hope my daughter moves away from Memphis before it happens.

Personally I would hunt up some plans online and build my own. That way you get exactly what you want. I’m going to build one out of a 55 gallon plastic drum I have sitting here.

Otherwise you could try the bigger sporting goods stores.

I do that! I have a ton of “how to” books too - mechanics, foraging, wilderness medicine, how to field dress small game.

I sincerely hope I will never need any of this!

But here's what we do know. This kind of spending by a minor government agency in this economy just doesn't make sense ... unless there are extraordinary circumstances behind it, circumstances we aren't privy to.

Scary stuff...
