Terror threats appear to be on the rise as FEMA has rushed a $1 Billion order of dehydrated food in the event of attacks on domestic targets in the US.

This is also coming on the heels of one of the largest terror drills performed by the US Navy on American soil, as Operation Solid Curtain is taking place this week.

In an article Tuesday from the Beaufort Observer, many of the largest suppliers of dehydrated foods in the country are dropping their distributors and customers to dedicate their resources to supplying a billion dollar FEMA request and purchase.

We already have the perfect place for FEMA to store their stash - in all the unused mobile homes and trailers they bought for Katrina victims in NOLA. Many are not sitting in the land fill so they could easily access them.

Dehydrating food is one of the simplest preservation methods there is.

Yep, I for the first time dehydrated a portion of our large Persimmon crop this year. It is nice to have them where I can put them on oatmeal or make the Korean Persimmon/Ginger/Tea from them. I also froze a lot of the ripe Persimmon pulp.

Whether there is any truth to this story or not, it does make one think that something is in the works.

You can never be too prepared.

I’ve got a 30 gallon plastic tote full of dried tomatoes and beans in the garage. I’ll bring them in and stick them in the freezer and use them over the summer as I dry more.

I’m going to double them next winter. Food makes fine currency in a pinch.

Forgot to add, gotta love this company.

From their website, just try to find the specs or the prices of their products anywhere. Cannot believe Beck puts his name behind this.

I don’t dehydrate, but I do can my food. What’s not in jars, I keep in pickle buckets I get free from a local restaurant (in mylar/with O2 absorbers). I grow everything from heirlooms and save the seeds from year to year.

This has been a huge learning curve for me, but I wanted to learn how to do this firsthand now, while I can still look up stuff online.

Don’t panic, simply plant a garden. Then you can do what you want with the produce from it.

I have onion sets in the ground and am about to plant potatoes.

About 3 weeks ago I planted 29 new fruit trees in the family orchard, 4 blueberry bushes, blackberry bushes, strawberries and even a couple of PawPaws.

We have cattle and a lot of wild game here.

There is a weekly gardening thread here on FR. The ping list is maintained by Red_Devil 232

Our yard has a lot of roots and not a lot of sun, so a garden is not really an option for us.
