I am proud to be a federal employee. Let me repeat, proud to be one of millions across the nation who work as a public servant and who believes that public employees choose careers so they can be a vital part of the glue that holds this nation together.
Who are we? We are your neighbors, we are your friends, we are your fellow parishioners, and the people who sit with you watching the children and grandchildren at the ballpark or the basketball court.
We are not faceless and anonymous "others." We are people you have known all your lives.

“So, the amount in your 401k is irrelevant.”
Bingo. But you’re the one who brought it up!
BTW, it’s over 700K now.
Two things really make me want to sh*t fire: when a member of a legislative body lists his or her profession as a "legislator," and when a government employee claims to be a "public servant."
These types of people are at the front of the go f*ck yourselves line.
I have family in harms way. That makes it more important to me.
What we really need is a far narrower brush. IMHO, there are two general types of public employees we don’t want:
1) Those employed in unnecessary departments or irrelevant positions
2) Those who consider their jobs a coast through to retirement rather than the service it is
I’ve met both, and it’s horrible. One person was so bad she wasn’t just a waste of taxpayer dollars for her salary and benefits, but she dragged down the efficiency of the whole organization. Our wonderful EO rules and her ability to play the system kept her there. She’s probably retired by now on a pretty fat government pension.
But you can’t reasonably hate all federal civilian employees. What about federal marshals? What about border patrol? The civilian in an Army finance department who’s making sure a soldier gets paid? The IG responsible for stopping government fraud? The guy who conducts security clearance investigations on our federal employees? The FOIA officer who implements the transparency of our government to its people? You can’t say that a person doing these jobs well isn’t making a valuable contribution to our society. Those positions need competitive pay and benefits, or we will rarely attract qualified people for them.
I was once, long ago and briefly, a government civilian employee. I didn’t get paid much, had few health benefits and not much for a retirement plan, but I did work my butt off to provide better service. It’s not all cushy fat cats.
Bull. There is no shortage of shirkers, bootlickers and time servers in the military either. Only a minority ever serve in the front lines. REMFs still abound. Dancers and prancers still dance and prance in their cloud of perfume. And billions is tossed to corrupt contractors so that generals and colonels can get fat retirement jobs.
I’m a fed of 34 years in DOD. I spend many days away from my home and family, traveling in order to accomplish my duties. I work on programs that have saved lives of our troops in the field and i continue to work on these types of missions. I’m not a union puke, i pay for my health care, med insurance, retirement and have no collective bargining. I find 99% of your comments offensive as i give a 100% towards my work as a fed employee. Some of you really need to grow up and get a life instead of bashing people that help save lives of our troops that preserve your freedoms to talk our your rear ends.
I can see I’m going to be busy in this thread.
When you characterize ALL Government employees as ball suckers, do you include the Department of Defense?
Do you include the men and women who have wagered their lives to protect our way of life?
Do you include the retired military subsequently hired as Civil Servants to teach their specialty to new armed forces personnel?
Suggest you watch where you aim. Asswipe.
You know, sometimes a little hyperbole is useful and warranted.
But that notwithstanding, I personally know a lot of Fed employees who do have sweet 20 year pensions, never have to worry about job security and get paid higher than their civilian counterparts. Few are in government work to serve the public, they’re in government work to make the most money for the least amount of work.
If the truth hurts, so be it.
Well it's not complete ignorance. My father-in-law retired from the "Foreign Service" at the age of 54 and within 2 years was making more in CSRS pension than his terminal salary. COLA good. And while we're at it the largest Federal benefit is PAY. And the gubmint is choked at the top pay grades with GS-13's earning $95000 at Step 10 for doing clerical work when they're not bidding on eBay auctions or surfing for kiddie porn on the internet. So let's not whine about the minimal cost of their healthcare or the 100% match on the first 5% of their bloated salaries contributed pre-tax.
What department did you work for?
Translation: verstehen Sie jetzt, Jude?
Oy vey. Best to be leery of "friendly" bureaucrats who say they know us and are watching our children.
Garbage just like the other garbage you post on your fellow Federal parasites
If 90% of the government parasites at all levels of government were fired and their pensions revoked. (thereby also getting rid of all non-Constitutional regulations, etc), within ten years the United States would have unheralded economic growth and happy citizens. Our Republic is dying at the hands of the parasite class.
Government is the root of ALL our problems.
you speak truth to parasites
If we go back to that I would have no complaint.
Used to be that spending the public’s money was sacred and a bit harder to do.
Collective bargaining within the monopoly of government has bastardized everything and bankrupted us as well.
To all the industrious, ethical, smart and talented government employees I say:
“We need you in the public sector where you can do much more good for the nation!”
Then I suggest you exclude DoD when you talk about Civil Service.
That goes for everyone on this thread. Words have meaning, if you say ALL, you mean ALL. If you exclude DoD from ball sucking, leeching, sucking the life-blood, etc., SAY so.
