First off, I paid into my retirment and invested beyond that so yes I am pretty set at this point, 65yo. I followed excellent advice: got a decent education without aid, learned a trade in the army, did not get married before I could afford it, did not sire any children out of wedlock, did not get involved in any nefarious or addictive behaviors, and lived conservatively so my situation reflects that. If your choices were different, that is your problem. If you wish to denegrate mine, go ahead, but you look small doing it IMO.
Have a good day
Pick me, Monte!
DC... maximum teat, minimum effort.
“We are the ones you will be supporting with sweet pensions after just 20 years of easy work”
FReepers continue to show their complete ignorance of federal benefits.
For the record, no one in the federal government hired after the mid-’80’s has “sweet pensions.” The benefit system was reorganized under Reagan and now mirrors private 401(k) plans with the gov’t only providing matching employee contributions, up to 5%. Also, Feds pay anywhere between 25-50% of their healthcare premiums, based on the plan.
The Fed benefit system is no where near the “sweet” deal that the states and private sector unions have. Every time I see FReepers spout off on what they think the Feds get, I shudder, because it just makes you look like fools.
This isn’t a defense of the Federal employee, but if you want to trash them, get your facts straight first.
So that we don’t paint all federal employees with the same brush, I believe there are basically four types of federal employees:
1) Those who want to do a good job, take their job seriously, and took their job because there was something that needed to be done and their skills could be used to do it.
2) Those who think a job is an entitlement, but have no commitment to their job, other than to make sure they keep getting a pay check.
3) Those who create other federal jobs for political gain.
4) Those who live off of the federal entitlement system.
So, to be fair, I would say there are some federal employees (the first category) who are necessary and add value. But, if the other categories of federal employees (and you know who you are) were to disappear overnight, I doubt they would hardly be missed.
MILITARY IS EXEMPT FROM THIS DISCUSSION!
Just like they are exempt from any benefit or praise the liberals want to give to ‘governemnt workers’
We are not so-called civil servants, we are part of the honorable profession of arms and constitutionally required.
Bravo!
I have no sympathy.
You are the giant sucking sound feeding from my family's basic needs allocation each month and bumping to the front of the line, while offering no real value for the cost of your "service".
You find my life to be a mere conduit for your right to the highest wages possible for the least amount of work. You find my life to be an assurance that your retirement is full of rich experiences while mine is plundered for your comfort.
No, I know who you are. You had better understand just who I can be.
Thank you for what you do. It’s no coincidence that your work is either directly or indirectly mandated by the Constitution.
Outside of Defense the rot quickly sets in. I don’t doubt that there are problems within some of the non-combat areas of Defense spending, but when compared with the EPA, Education etc - its no contest.
Not so accurate. For every federal employee providing a valuable service, there are many performing work that is essentially useless, unnecessary and expensive in agenceies like HUD, Education, EPA to name a few. Moreover, these “neighbors” never stop to think that their “contributions” are anything except important work being delivered on the behalf of the taxpayer. There are certainly federal employees who work in difficult situations under stress and long hours. But they are few and far between with the rigors of their jobs more a function of bad agency practices and arbitrary rules than the content of their positions.
“I am proud to be a federal employee. Let me repeat, proud to be one of millions across the nation who work as a public servant and who believes that public employees choose careers so they can be a vital part of the glue that holds this nation together”
Sounds like the “former special agent” on this year’s Survivor. One of the strangest and unstable characters ever to play the game.
Thank you for the work you do. However, the lard-butted Amtrak employee who willfully ignores or otherwise mistreats individuals based on appearance, gets no pass from me. As far as I’m concerned, s/he can pound sand and can quit soaking the rest of us.
You also work with people who do just enough to slide by. Doesn’t it bug you they are soaking not only us, but you? Just a teeny bit?
Federal government assets in the States need to be sold off to domestic citizens..
The federal government OWNING land or anything else in the States IS OBSCENE..
No. You are a blood sucking tick on me in a place I cannot reach thanks to the handcuffs I am wearing courtesy of the federal government and public sector unions.
Foreign ownership of ANY of our domestic resources should be banned and outlawed..

Enjoy my tax money.
“...who believes that public employees choose careers so they can be a vital part of the glue that holds this nation together.”
Who are you kidding with this self serving Cr@p? They take the job because it’s easy work, the pay is good, and the benefits and retirement benefits are great. Most people I know who couldn’t make it in the private sector ended up working for the govt.
I am not military, but what we do supports it and a whole lot more.
When the liberals look at cuts in the military, they look to the places where the most technological advances come from, where innovative ideas and research lead to products that spin off to private business.
That is just an example.
That's just ONE product that has spun off to private business and put people to work.
That there are problems in other areas of the Government worker system and even within this one are true, but here those get weeded out and trimmed.
The best and brightest we can find come here to work, not on purpose, but for a purpose.
