I thought it was definitely an attempt to massacre whoever was the target, but I suspect it was not official. That is, the Egyptian army has not begun to officially attack Christians.

I would assume you saw the priests running along, holding out their crosses to indicate that they were no threat and hoping to keep the army back. And then I assume you saw one of the commanders obviously ordering the forces to move...and I hope you saw the priests and the people fleeing and somebody running to the priests with his wounded child.

The people were all the same, the place was the same, and this does not in any way appear to be a manufactured video. But since I have seen you supporting either leftist or Islamist causes for many years here on FR, I guess you probably already know that.

Don’t hold your breath. Nobody cares if Christians get attacked.

Muslims must be protected at all costs.

The killing of Christians is the real genocide here. But, both sides of the aisle are more worried for the killing of innocent muslims. Not really, but we have to pretend it as though it is true.

Makes me gag.

This attrocity is being committed by members of the “religion of peace”, Islam. I’m shocked, stunned and totally perplexed. /sar/

Please look at what is stated right under the video linked at the start of this thread. What does it say there?

Doesn’t it say something like, “Media not covering attempted Massacre?”

I’m not sure what was going on there. Of one thing I am certain, there was no attempt at a massacre.

People with several armored personnel carriers and AK-47s don’t ‘try’ to carry out a massacre. They carry them out if that’s their goal.

Once again, other than a kid being passed off as being wounded and being carried away, there aren’t bodies laying around or any video of people actually being shot. And as for things being torn down, that one gate-like looking object was the only thing shown being torn down.

I don’t know how long that long pile of rocks was there. The wall would not have provided enough rocks to build a pile that high, so that calls to question what those piles really were.

Thanks for the response.

Please link me to where I have been supporting Islamist or Leftist causes on this forum. This should make for some interesting reading.

Livius, if you’ve got AK-47s, ammo, and personnel carriers with larger caliber ammo on top, you don’t attempt to massacre people. If you want it done, it’s done.

I saw a lot of commotion. I saw a lot of small arms. I didn’t many of those small arms discharging, although there was a sound track with lots of guns going off.

It wasn’t top quality video though, I’ll grant you that.

It was a monastery, not a church.

My mistake, one of the two links above says “attempted massacre”. I was looking at the other one.

Look, I’m not trying to give you a hard time. If the video is truly showing activity around a Coptic compound, I’m not happy about it at all.

For me, the video was less than supportable of some of the comments made. If there had been a more lengthy commentary regarding what we were really seeing, and what had transpired in the hours before it, I may have come away a lot more impressed with regard to what I was seeing.

I do sympathize with the Coptic in Egypt. I don’t want them singled out for any negative action.

a kid being passed off as being wounded and being carried away

So you suspect the Copts are staging this and adding sound FX in post-production? Is that more likely than the islamist Egyptian military using force and intimidation against them? Really?

Oh, I know that. And I’ve never seen you take up the cause of the islamists... which is why I’m a little perplexed by your position on this one. I have no problem with your objection to the use of the word “massacre”, attempted or otherwise. If they wanted to kill every Copt right then and there, they certainly had the means.

I just think that’s where it’s headed. What we’re seeing here seems like pretty clear-cut intimidation (with some excessive force), especially with multiple videos and reports substantiating it.

When this whole Egyptian thing started, I had grave concerns for the Israelis and others. I have a relative in Egypt right now. While I didn’t immediately flash on the Copts, I do have concerns for their plight.

If we recall how Mubarak came to power in the first place, it’s obvious there has been a radical element in Egypt for a long time. I’m amazed the Copts have lasted this long. Frankly, I’m surprised Mubarak lasted this long, what with radical Islamic terrorists and all.

Someone else stated that they saw people pushing out crosses to let the militants know they were not a threat. That sounded odd to me, considering this was supposed to be an attempted massacre. Holding out a cross is the last thing you want to do, if someone is intent on killing Copts.

I didn’t see markings on the building. I didn’t see a cross on it. Perhaps you don’t do that over there.

All I know is that a commotion was taking place, all hell was breaking loose, and both sides seemed to be really worked up.

I’m not trying to short-change anyone. I’m just curious what I was really seeing there.

I could easily see that compound being owned by an insider of the Mubarak administration, as much as anything else. I just don’t know for sure.

Take care.

If you can look at that video and tell those are copts as opposed anyone else, then you’re a better man than I.

I’m not accusing anyone of anything, because I don’t know who those people actually are.

I will tell you that at certain places in the video/soundtrack, the firing didn’t seem to match up at all. There didn’t seem to be any guns being fired to match up to the sound.

Some video production sound on less expensive recording devices can track improperly, so I’m not able to make a full determination on that count either.

Please don’t read everything I say as an attack on the Coptics. It is reasonable for a person to wonder what it is they are actually seeing. That doesn’t mean evil intent.

“Exactly. In any battle between anything like equal forces, the Mohammedans always come in second place.”

Yeah these chicken chit Block Heads had to bring APC’s and Automatic weapons against Priests no less! May they burn in Hell.

I’m not assigning any intent on your part, least of all anything evil. You’ve been around here long enough for me to know that’s not what you’re about.

And I have no problem with a cautious approach to an unverified video. Given the circumstances, it’s perfectly reasonable and prudent.

I’m just weighing the evidence that I have in front of me — multiple videos, reports and firsthand account from Copts — and finding little reason to doubt the veracity of the claims being made (aside from one western blogger’s assertion of an attempted massacre). On top of that, I have my own bias. I’m a Christian, I detest islam with all of my heart and I fear for the safety of my fellow Christians who find themselves surrounded by bloodthirsty islamists in a chaotic, lawless land.

That video locked up on me about half way through and I couldn’t get it to finish.

On the basis of what I did see, it appears that the Copts were trying to block the bucket loader from demolishing their defensive walls, as they probably know what will happen some Friday soon after Muslim “prayers” as soon as it’s down.

Think “human wave” of about a thousand “enraged muslims” howling like a pack of the predators they are, waving clubs, machettes, swords, and whatever other weapons they can find. It won’t be pretty and the Copts know it all too well.

It seems like the Army was firing “warning shots” in order to disperse them, which they obviously did.
I don’t think the Army wants any more Christian blood on it’s hands - at least directly - than necessary at this point.

They might not have actually massacred them, but IMHO they are sure setting them up for one. It will probably happen soon, will be a coordinated (by the Mosques and Muzbros) attack to hit multiple churches / monasteries, and Christian enclaves at once in a Muslim “blitzkreig”.

Extermination of the “Infidel” is probably right near the top of the Ikhwan agenda, and I don’t expect them to waste much time in getting about it in Egypt and every other place they are in the process of taking over by staged “revolution”.

Oh yeah; WE ARE on the list.

I share your concerns too. At the time I wrote my misgivings about the video, I wasn’t aware of other videos. Perhaps some of those would have been more revealing for me.

Anyway, thanks for the discussion. Both our thoughts will be for the Copts safety.
