Political correctness and government regulation has done what scandals, strikes and a world war could not do: it has shut down baseball, the eternal game. When the California Golden Bears next take the field to begin their season, they start what may be the last of 120 historic years on the diamond. UC Berkeleys baseball team, ranked among the top 20 in the nation by the magazine Baseball America, has fallen victim to political correctness, axed by the implementation of Title IX. That section of the U.S. Code, the Education Amendments of 1972, passed under the Nixon administration, says that:
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance
U.S. Code Section 20
A perfectly fair law, on the face of it. The act was written to prevent discrimination in academic programs, when federal funds are being used, and specifically excluded fraternities and sororities, Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs, and the like. No mention of sports was made, either excluded from regulation or as a mere oversight. But with the camels nose in the tent in the form of Federal money, the phrase awaited only the interpretation of Jimmy Carters Department of Health, Education and Welfare to begin to wreak havoc on collegiate sports programs.

Bjerkley (liberals) wants this law, Bjerkley gets it. Now they have to STEW IN IT.
When will the football team have the same demise?
Insanity...pure insanity.
The University of Texas football program turns something like $40 million profit. The entire athletic department, including the football program, turns something like a $5 million profit (numbers are approximate, I don't have the exact ones in front of me.) This means the other programs LOSE a combined about $35 million.
Football goes, ALL athletic programs go. Football pays the freight.
California State University’s decision to strictly adhere to Title IX help end football for Long Beach State, CS Fullerton, CS Northridge, and others meant players going out of state to play football at the likes of Nevada and Boise State.
Liberalism and political correctness (among other things) will be the downfall of America. It is a true mental disorder.
A recent radio news report on the elimination of the baseball program, along with men’s gymnastics and one or two other programs, cited the declining budget as the reason for the cuts. Any insights?
