A Canadian Appeals Judge has held that reasonable doubt existed when a man who bought a decorative sword from a friend and stuffed in his shorts to take it home because he didnt have a bag or backpack to put it in. Teran Laplante was charged with carrying a concealed weapon when someone complained to police that he saw him with a black handled sword in a sheath in his shorts. The Appellate Judge held that the decorative sword that the man had in his shorts didnt fit the definition of a weapon in the applicable criminal code. The man was previously found not guilty of the crime, but the prosecutors appealed to this higher court. The Judge said that the prosecutors failed to prove the sword was designed to cause harm.

The man was previously found not guilty of the crime, but the prosecutors appealed to this higher court. It seems Canadians have as much respect for double jeopardy protection as they do for free speech.

No such thing as double jeopardy in Canada. That’s one of the reasons we had that little unpleasantness with His Majesty a few years ago.

I wish I had a dollar everytime someone said that to me. Why, I’d be...well - to tell the truth - I’d be flat broke.

As a retired editor/writer, it irritates me when so many stories begging for an illustrative photo - don't provide them. I suspect sheer laziness.
