Christina Aguilera Super Bowl Star-Spangled Banner Embarrassment

Christina Aguilera opened Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, TX by singing our National Anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner, in what may go down in history as the most embarassingly horrible rendition ever performed in public since Rosanne Barr's supposedly comedic version in 1990.

Christina not only took the liberty of diva-ing up every single line within the song ... she completely forgot "O'er the ramparts we watched" and tangled up the subsequent lyrics as she proceeded to strangle every ounce of heart and soul out of the remainder of our precious anthem.

Instead of the lyrics reflecting the emotional upheaval felt by Sir Francis Scott Key ...

Christina botched it - big time - and she knew it. But she didn't let that get in the way of finishing the song (kudos to her at least for that) or showing America that she can take a special National moment of pride and turn it into an "All-about-Christina moment" of National shame...

Drug addicts often suffer from memory loss. Who picked this loser?

Who picked this loser?

...and, after watching it in HD, who troweled on that makeup, or decided to extend the lipstick out 5 inches in every direction???

The girl can sing. She was too preoccupied with “making it her own”.

- National Anthem was screwed up
- Stadium was screwed up
- Halftime entertainment terrible - I turned the sound off after a couple minutes
- A sixth seed team that couldn’t win their division won
- Even the commercials were below the usual entertainment level
A total fiasco

And the halftime show was equally horrible. Shame on the producers for giving us this crap.

Terrible rendition of the National Anthem

Terrible (and political) half time show

Terrible ads

The actual game was pretty good. I thought the Steelers were going to make a comeback history.

I remember many years ago, Linda Ronstadt sang the national anthem at a baseball game. I dont remember the occasion, maybe a playoff game or world series. Anyway, I was a big fan at the time (back when she had a great voice). She sang it just like you and I would sing it. No runs, no special effects, no extra long notes. Just straight up normal. I thought that was the best rendition I had ever heard. It wasnt about her. She was just a fan and an American. She has since lost her voice and her way.

Wow, how many people here have ever had to sing in front of a crowd this size? Do you think that just because you do it often you are ever immune to nervousness or memory lapses? I have sung publically hundreds of times, and this can easily happen, even with songs you know well— once you start to panic, you are fighting to appear relaxed and control it and it is very easy to slip up.

Doesn't say much for what the AFC had to offer, does it?

I just wish someone would get out there and sing it in bright 4/4 time like it was written, and stop all this bluesy crap.

I would rather hear just an average person sing it the normal way than one of these so-called “stars” with their incessant yodeling and caterwauling. Good grief they suck.
