Egypt now fears Obama a ‘Manchurian President’

‘They are trying to understand why he is acting against U.S. interests’

Top members of the Egyptian government say they feel betrayed by President Obama, charging that he is acting against American interests.

“Mubarak’s regime feels Obama is pushing the advancement of the Muslim Brotherhood against U.S. interests,” said WND’s Jerusalem bureau chief and senior reporter Aaron Klein. “They are genuinely trying to understand why Obama is seemingly championing the anti-regime protests.”

Klein said that a top Egyptian diplomat with whom he has developed a rapport over the last few years asked him earlier this week to explain Obama’s motivation to support the opposition to Mubarak.

“I told him none of this should be a surprise,” said Klein, “that the Obama administration has developed an extensive relationship over the last few years with allies of the Muslim Brotherhood.

“That my investigating has proven that Obama has been closely associated throughout his political career with radical-left elements who have long petitioned for policies many believe are aimed at weakening the American enterprise both domestically and internationally.”

The diplomat requested 20 copies of Klein’s New York Times bestselling book investigating Obama, “The Manchurian President: Barack Obama’s ties to communists, socialists, and other anti-American extremists.”

The diplomat said he would deliver the book, which was co-authored by Brenda J. Elliott, to senior officials in Mubarak’s embattled government.

Obama in recent days urged Mubarak to give up power in Egypt, where the Muslim Brotherhood forms the main opposition.

Mubarak has been a staunch U.S. ally and a recipient of billions of dollars in military aid. His regime has long been considered a stabilizing force in the Arab world.

The Obama administration’s support for the unrest is strikingly reminiscent of Jimmy Carter’s support of the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, which marked the birth of modern Islamist expansion.

Some Muslim clerics are already calling the riots in Egypt simply an extension of 1979’s Islamist conquests.

“Thirty-one years after the victory of the Islamic Republic, we are faced with the obvious fact that these movements are the aftershocks of the Islamic revolution,” said Iranian cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, as reported by Iran’s Radio Zamaneh. “The fate of those who challenge [our] religion is destruction.”

Speaking of media and government leaders, Khatami added, “They want to highlight the labor, liberal and democratic issues, but the most important issue, which is the religious streak of these protests, [is] being denied.”

The leader of Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood, Hammam Saeed, warned that the unrest in Egypt will spread across the Mideast until Arabs succeed at toppling leaders allied with the United States.

“The Americans and Obama must be losing sleep over the popular revolt in Egypt,” Saeed said at a sympathy protest held outside the Egyptian Embassy in Amman. “Now, Obama must understand that the people have woken up and are ready to unseat the tyrant leaders who remained in power because of U.S. backing.”

And on the Internet, the Middle East Media Research Institute reports, prominent Salafi cleric Abu Mundhir Al-Shinqiti issued a fatwa on the website Minbar Al-Tawhid Wal Jihad encouraging the protests in Egypt, claiming Islamist jihadis are now on the verge of a historic moment, an “earthquake” he likened to the Sept. 11 attacks in New York City.

Obama pushes Egyptian ‘reform’

According to a senior Egyptian diplomat speaking to WND, a former U.S. ambassador to Egypt, Frank Wisner, specifically told Mubarak on Tuesday the U.S. would not continue to support his rule and he must step down.

Hours later, Mubarak announced he would not seek another term in office.

The Obama administration dispatched Wisner to Egypt last weekend to report to the State Department and White House a general sense of the situation in the country.

WND broke the story yesterday that the Egyptian government has information Wisner secretly met earlier this week with a senior leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Issam El-Erian.

The Muslim Brotherhood seeks to spread Islam around the world, in large part using nonviolent means. Hamas and al-Qaida are violent Brotherhood offshoots.

Muslim Brotherhood declares war on U.S.

Prominent U.S. commentators also have been claiming the Muslim Brotherhood is a moderate organization and denying there is any Islamist plot to seize power.

Last Friday, President George W. Bush’s former press spokeswoman, Dana Perino, told Fox News, “Don’t be afraid of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. This has nothing to do with religion.”

Bruce Reidel, a former CIA analyst and adviser to President Obama, wrote a Daily Beast article in which he claimed, “The Egyptian Brotherhood renounced violence years ago. … Its relative moderation has made it the target of extreme vilification by more radical Islamists.”

Reidel’s assertion the Brotherhood renounced violence, however, is contradicted by its own statements in recent months, including a call to arms against the West.

In November, the Brotherhood’s new supreme guide, Muhammad Badi, delivered a sermon entitled “How Islam Confronts the Oppression and Tyranny.”

“Resistance is the only solution,” stated Badi. “The United States cannot impose an agreement upon the Palestinians, despite all the power at its disposal. [Today] it is withdrawing from Iraq, defeated and wounded, and is also on the verge of withdrawing from Afghanistan because it has been defeated by Islamist warriors.”

Badi went on to declare the U.S. is easy to defeat through violence, since it is “experiencing the beginning of its end and is heading toward its demise.”

Barry Rubin, director of the Global Research in International Affairs Center, noted Badi’s speech showed “the likelihood that more Brotherhood supporters in the West will turn to violence and fund-raising for terrorism.”

Frank Gaffney, president of the American Center for Security Policy, takes it a step further.

“In short, the Muslim Brotherhood – whether it is operating in Egypt, elsewhere in the world or here – is our enemy,” he wrote.

Obama quietly builds ties to Muslim Brotherhood

Klein reported for WND yesterday that Obama and top administration officials have troubling relationships with the Muslim Brotherhood and its worldwide allies.

Muslim Brotherhood members were reportedly invited to attend Obama’s 2009 address to the Muslim world from Cairo. Khaled Hamza, editor of the Muslim Brotherhood website, confirmed at the time that 10 members of the Brotherhood’s parliamentary bloc received official invitations to attend Obama’s historic speech.

Also in 2009, the Egyptian daily newspaper Almasry Alyoum ran a report claiming Obama had met with U.S. and European-based representatives of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood that year

According to the report, the Brotherhood members requested that news of the meeting not be publicized. They expressed to Obama their support for democracy and the war on terror.

The newspaper also reported Brotherhood members communicated to Obama their position that they would abide by all agreements Egypt has signed with foreign countries, implying that if they took power in Egypt they would continue that country’s peace treaty with Israel.

Besides contact with the Muslim Brotherhood itself, there have been reports the past two years of behind-the-scenes contact with Hamas, which was founded as an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas maintains a close alliance with the Brotherhood; the Brotherhood’s new leader, Muhammad Badi, serves as a de facto lead spiritual guide for Hamas.

Top leaders of Hamas in Gaza claimed to WND several times they passed messages to Obama through dignitaries who visited the Gaza Strip, including Jimmy Carter and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., – both of whom have a close relationship with the White House.

Kerry, for example, reportedly accepted a letter for Obama from Hamas leaders in Gaza during a February 2009 visit to U.N. installations in the coastal territory.

U.N. relief agency chief in Gaza Karen Abu Zayd told the BBC the Hamas letter had been received by his agency and passed on to an unnamed American official.

In November, 2008, WND first quoted Hamas officials stating they would be sending a letter to Obama.

Immediately after that month’s elections, Ahmed Yousef , Hamas’ chief political adviser in Gaza, called Obama’s win a “historic victory” for the world and told WND that Hamas was sending a letter of congratulation to the president-elect.

Obama ties to Brotherhood’s U.S. allies

It is not just Obama’s reported contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood and the group’s allies in the Middle East that are of concern.

The Obama administration also has evidenced a working relationship with several U.S.-based Islamist organizations that are listed by the Brotherhood as “likeminded” organizations.

One such group is the Islamic Society of North America, or ISNA, a radical Muslim group that was an unindicted co-conspirator in a scheme to raise money for Hamas.

ISNA was named in a May 1991 Muslim Brotherhood document – “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America” – as one of the Brotherhood’s likeminded “organizations of our friends” who shared the common goal of transforming countries into Muslim nations.

The White House relationship with ISNA began even before Obama took office. One week before the presidential inauguration, Sayyid Syeed, national director of the ISNA Office for Interfaith and Community Alliances, was part of a delegation that met with the directors of Obama’s transition team. The delegation discussed a request for an executive order ending “torture.”

ISNA President Ingrid Mattson represented American Muslims at Obama’s inauguration, where she offered a prayer during the televised event.

Mattson also has represented ISNA at Obama’s annual Ramadan dinners, including the last such event in which Obama announced support for the rights of Muslims to build an Islamic cultural center and mosque two blocks from the site of the 9/11 attacks.

In June 2009, Obama’s top aide, Valerie Jarrett, invited Mattson to work on the White House Council on Women and Girls, which Jarrett leads.

That July, the Justice Department sponsored an information booth at an ISNA bazaar in Washington, D.C.

Also that month, Jarrett addressed ISNA’s 46th annual convention. According to the White House, Jarrett attended as part of Obama’s outreach to Muslims.

ISNA sponsored a February 2010 question-and-answer session in which Obama’s top adviser on counter-terrorism, John Brennan, came under fire for controversial remarks to Muslim law students.

Hoyer Meets Official From Egypt’s Banned Muslim Brotherhood

CAIRO, Egypt — A top U.S. Democratic congressman met a leading member of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, an OUTLAWED OPPOSITION GROUP, during a recent visit to the country, the Islamic fundamentalist group and U.S. officials said Saturday.

House Majority Leader STENY HOYER met with the Muslim Brotherhood’s parliament leader, Mohammed SAAD el-KATATNI, twice on Thursday — once at the parliament building and then at the home of the U.S. ambassador to Egypt, said Brotherhood spokesman HAMDI HASSAN.

U.S. Embassy spokesman JOHN BERRY would only confirm that Hoyer, who represents Maryland, met with el-Katatni at U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardone’s home at a reception with other politicians and parliament members.

Though OFFICIALLY BANNED since 1954, the Brotherhood is tolerated by the government and has become Egypt’s largest opposition group and President Hosni Mubarak’s most powerful rival.

Its members, who run as independents, make up the LARGEST OPPOSITION bloc in parliament, holding about one-fifth of its 454 seats.

Secretary of State Condoleezza RICE had REFUSED in the PAST to MEET with the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD.

But BERRY said U.S. GOVERNMENT POLICY DOES NOT BAR MEETINGS with BROTHERHOOD MEMBERS of PARLIMENT and Hoyer’s talks with el-Katatni were NOT a CHANGE in U.S POLICY toward the group.

“It’s our diplomatic practice around the world to meet with parliamentarians, be they members of political parties or independents,” Berry said. “We haven’t changed our policy with regard to the Muslim Brotherhood as an organization.”

The STATE DEPARTMENT had no comment Saturday on Hoyer’s meetings with the group.

Berry stressed that HOYER met with el-Katatni in his capacity as an independent member of Egyptian parliament. He WOULD NOT SAY what the two discussed.

HASSAN said the two lawmakers discussed developments in the Middle East, the “BROTHERHOODs VISION” and OPPOSITION MOVEMENTS in Egypt. He said the two met privately at the ambassador’s home and with other members of Hoyer’s BIPARTISAN DELEGATION and Egyptian lawmakers at the parliament building.

HOYER’s meeting came just a day after Democratic speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi drew SHARP CRITICISM from the BUSH Administration for meeting with Syrian president BASHAR ASSAD in Damascus.

PELOSI and other Democrats argue the administration needs to ENGAGE Syria to resolve some of the most intractable problems in the Middle East, such as Iraq and the Israeli-Arab conflict. But the BUSH administration REJECTS that approach, accusing Syria of exacerbating the troubles in neighboring Iraq and Lebanon.

JON ALTERMAN, a Mideast specialist at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said Bush administration officials may have AVOIDED meeting Muslim Brotherhood members because that could STRAIN RELATIONS with the SECULAR Egyptian government, one of the closest U.S. allies in the Middle East.

“The difficulty when it gets to Egypt is that the BROTHERHOOD is NOT a LEGAL GROUP WITHIN EGYPT and the U.S. government is wary of violating laws in countries in which it operates,” he told The Associated Press on Saturday.

“The larger constraint on our willingness to meet the Brotherhood is the Egyptian government’s unease with our government’s meeting with the Brotherhood.”

HOYER, who also met with Mubarak during his visit, left Egypt on Friday. A telephone message left with his spokeswoman Saturday was not immediately returned. Calls to el-Katatni also went unanswered Saturday.

The Muslim BROTHERHOOD’s parliament bloc WEB SITE said the meetings were not part of an effort to engage the United States.

“The Brotherhood not only has reservations on dialogue with the Americans but REJECTS the unfair American policy in the region,” the Web site said.

Washington has been pressing Mubarak for years to enact reforms as part of a Bush administration campaign to spread democracy in the Mideast. And RICE expressed concern in March that “all voices” were not being heard in deliberations over AMENDING the CONSTITUTION as part of those reforms.

“There’s been a growing sense in WASHINGTON over 20 years that ISLAMIC POLITICS ARE HERE TO STAY, and the U.S. interest in promoting democracy around the world means we should be engaging with a growing number of actors,” Alterman said.

Pelosi’s delegation to Syria—who said what to whom?

Did Rep. NANCY PELOSI drop the ball in the Middle East? Was she fouled? Was there a ball at all?

Pelosi, the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, earned White House vituperation — unusual for its intensity in even these partisan times — after delivering what she said was a PEACE MESSAGE last week from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud OLMERT TO Syrian President Bashar ASSAD.

“It was a nonstatement, nonsensical statement and didn’t make any sense at all that she would suggest that those talks could go forward as long as the Syrians conducted themselves as a prime state sponsor of terror,” Vice President DICK CHENEY told radio host Rush Limbaugh. “I think it is, in fact, bad behavior on her part. I wish she hadn’t done it.”

Some Pelosi statements on Assad prompted an almost immediate “clarification” from Olmert’s office.

“We were very pleased with the reassurances we received from the president that he was ready to resume the peace process,” Pelosi had said. “He was ready to engage in negotiations for peace with Israel.

Also, the “meeting with the president enabled us to communicate a message from Prime Minister Olmert that Israel was ready to engage in peace talks as well.”

But in his meeting with Pelosi, Olmert’s statement said, the prime minister “emphasized that although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, that country continues to be part of the axis of evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East. In order to conduct serious and genuine peace negotiations, Syria must cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hezbollah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran.”

The clarification baffled the delegation, which included Rep. TOM LANTOS (San Mateo), the Jewish chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; Rep. HENRY WAXMAN (D-Los Angeles), its Government Reform Committee chairman and also Jewish; Rep. NICK RAHALL (D-W.Va.), an Arab American who is chairman of the House Resources Committee; Rep. KEITH ELLISON (D-Minn.), a freshman who is the first Muslim American member of Congress; Rep. DAVID HOBSON (R-Ohio), a senior Republican; and Rep. LOUISE SLAUGHTER (D-N.Y.), chairwoman of the House Rules Committee.

“The speaker conveyed precisely what the prime minister and the acting president asked,” Lantos said. That included the traditional Israeli caveat about Syrian backing for terrorism.

“It’s obvious the White House is desperate to find some phony criticism of the speaker’s trip, even though it was a bipartisan trip,” said Lantos, a Holocaust survivor who is considered the Democrat closest to the pro-Israel lobby. “I have nothing but contempt and disdain for the attempt to undermine this trip.”[...]

“Prime Minister OLMERT immediately made it clear that she was not authorized to make any such offer to Bashar Assad,” he said. “Fortunately, I think the various parties involved recognize she doesn’t speak for the United States in those circumstances, she doesn’t represent the administration. The president is the one who conducts foreign policy, not the speaker of the House.”

In fact, White House frustration might have to do with a foreign policy spinning out of its control.

After the White House berated Pelosi for even daring to visit Assad, it was REVEALED that congressional REPUBLICAN DELEGATIONS WERE IN DAMASCUS at about the same time, just as eager to relay the same message as the Pelosi team: Talking is better than not talking.

“Dialogue is not a sign of weakness,” Rep. JEW PITTS (R-Pa.) told his hometown newspaper, the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal, after he returned home. “It’s a sign of strength.”

CIA and the Muslim Brotherhood Ally to Oppose Egyptian President Nasser

Israel Commits Bombing Attacks in Egypt, Tries to Blame Muslim Brotherhood

Bombs explode in British and American cultural centers and libraries, and in post offices in Alexandria and Cairo. The campaign ends when a BOMB explodes prematurely in the pocket of an ISRAEL AGENT who is about to plant it in a British-owned cinema.

The plan is to damage the relations between Egypt, US and Britain by placing the blame for the bombings on the Muslim Brotherhood, an Egyptian Islamic militant group. An initial inquiry places blame on the Minister of Defense, PINHAS LAVON, but a subsequent inquiry authorized by Sharett finds that LAVON was set up using forged documents, and that the true author of the false-flag attack was none other than DAVID BEN GURION, the “father of the Israeli State.

AFTER NASSER’S DEATH, Egyptian President SADAT Brings Back the Muslim Brotherhood and the CIA

After Egyptian President Gamal Abddul Nasser dies in October 1970, he is succeded as president of Egypt by his former Vice President, Anwar Sadat. SADAT is also a FORMER MEMBER of the Muslim Brotherhood, and he promptly REINSTATES the GROUP as a LEGAL ORGANIZATION and welcomes them back into Egypt.

SADAT also has a very CLOSE RELATIONSHIP with the head of SAUDI INTELLIGENCE, KAMAL ADHAM. Through Adham, Sadat also develops close working relationships not only with the Saudis, but with the CIA and HENRY KISSENGER.

Sadat uses the power of the religious right, and the Muslim Brothers in particular to contain the Nasserites and their resistance to the radical changes he introduces. DURING SADAT’S TENURE in the 1970’s Egypt becomes a HOTBED of ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISM, and figures like SHEIKH OMAR ABDUL-RAHMAN and AYMAN al-ZAWAHIRI GAIN GREAT POWER in Egypt during this period.

Ironically SADAT himself is ASSASSINATED in 1981 by ISLAMIC JIHAD, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, in 1981, because of his accomodation with Israel.

1973-1982:

Israel and Jordan Support Muslim Brotherhood Terrorism Against Syria -

In 1973 HAFEZ ASSAD approves a new, SECULAR constitution for Syria, and declares that the country is a “DEMOCRATIC. POPULAR, SOCIALIST STATE,” CREATING a BACKLASH of VIOLENT ISLAMIST DEMONSTRATIONS.

Beginning in 1976, the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD carries out hundreds of attacks in Syria in an attempt to bring down the secular government. Israel and Jordan provide generous support for these operations, for example establishing training camps for the Muslim Brotherhood in Lebanon and Jordan near the Syrian border. In one incident in 1979, a gang of Brotherhood militants murders 83 military cadets by locking them inside a buliding and attacking it with automatic weapons and firebombs.

Newsweek reports in 1981 that “over the past five years the BROTHERHOOD has ASSASSINATED hundreds of ALAWITE MEMBERS of ASSAD’S ruling Baath Party along with their relatives, Assad’s personal doctor, and a number of Soviet advisers.”

In 1982, the SYRIAN ARMY BRUTALLY SUPPRESSES the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD and their supporters, MASSACRING THOUSANDS in the city of HAMA, a strong center of support for the Brotherhood.

This puts an end to the wave of violence. [Dreyfuss, 2005, pp. 199-205]

One can see it takes tremendous brutality to suppress the Muslim Brotherhood. They have a huge advantage in this country, they’ve been accepted by the left which has enabled them to recruit, and even imbed in our government.

1976:

Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt Founded and Funds Political Growth of Islamist Movement -

Founded in 1976, FAISAL ISLAMIC BANK of EGYPT (FIBE) was part of the banking empire built by SAUDI PRINCE MOHAMMED al-FAISAL. Several of the FOUNDING MEMBERS are leading members of the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD, INCLUDING the “BLIND SHEIKH,” Sheikh Omar Abdul-Rahman.

The growth of Islamic banking directly funds the political growth of the Islamist movement, and allows the Saudis to pressure poorer Islamic nations, like Egypt, to shift their policies to the right.

The Islamic banking boom is closely associated with the NEOLIBERAL FREE-TRADE PHILOSOPHY of the CHICAGO SCHOOL of ECONOMICS, and with the free-trade prescriptions of the INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND, and with CONSERVATIVE THINK-TANKS like the VIRGINIA-based ISLAMIC FREE MARKET INSTITUTE.

FIBE is also closely associated with the infamous BANK of CREDIT and COMMERCE INTERNATIONAL (BCCI), which will found to be deeply implicated in the ILLEGAL ARMS and NARCOTICS TRADES, and with the FUNDING of TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS when it collapses in 1991.

Investigators will also find that BCCI held $589 million in “unrecorded deposits,” $245 million of which were placed with FIBE. [Dreyfuss, 2005, pp. 164 - 175]

December 1982:

Muslim Brotherhood Project to Infiltrate and Defeat the West

In November 2001, Swiss investigators will search the home of YOUSSEF NADA, the LEADER of Al TAQWA BANK, a SWISS BANK that had just been SHUT DOWN by the US and the UN for alleged ties to al-Qaeda, Hamas, and other radical militant groups (see November 7, 2001).

NADA and other Al Taqwa directors are prominent members of the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD. Newsweek will say, “The Brotherhood, founded in Egypt in 1928 as a religious and quasi-political counterweight to the corrupt and increasingly decadent royalist and colonial governments dominating the Islamic world, always has had TWO FACES:

one a peaceful public, proselytizing and social-welfare oriented wing; the other

a clandestine, paramilitary wing.…

Intelligence and law-enforcement officials say that while some branches and elements of the Brotherhood, such as the offshoots now operating in EGYPT and SYRIA, have PLEDGED to work for their GOAL of a WORLDWIDE ISLAMIC CALIPHATE using PEACEFUL MEANS and ELECTORAL POLITICS, the Brotherhood has also spun off many—if not most—of the more violent local and international groups devoted to the cause of Islamic holy war.” Such offshoots will include al-Qaeda and Hamas. Swiss investigators discover a 14-page document from December 1982 entitled “The Project.” NADA claims not to know who wrote the document or how he came to have it, and he says he disagrees with most of the contents. The document details a strategic plan whose ultimate goal is “the establishment of the reign of God over the entire world.”

The document begins, “This report presents a GLOBAL VISION of an INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY of ISLAMIC POLICY.” It recommends to “STUDY of the CENTERS of POWER LOCALLY and WORLDWIDE, and the POSSIBILITIES of PLACING THE UNDER THE INFLUENCE,” to CONTACT and SUPPORT NEW HOLY WAR MOVEMENTS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD,, to support holy war in PALESTINE, and “NURTURE the SENTIMENT of RANCOR with regard to the JEWS.”

Swiss investigators who analyze the document will later write that the strategy aims to achieve “a growing influence over the Muslim world. It is pointed out that the [Muslim Brotherhood] DOESN’T HAVE to ACT in the NAME of the BROTHERHOOD, but can INFILTRATE EXISTING ENTITIES. They can thus AVOID BEING LOCATED and NEUTRALIZED.”

The document also advocates creating a network of religious, educational, and charitable institutions in Europe and the US to increase influence there.
