Joy Behar Asks Miss America: Would You Vote For An Atheist?
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | January 29, 2011 | Walter Hudson

Posted on 01/29/2011 10:11:02 PM PST by Walter Scott Hudson

17-year-old Miss Nebraska, Teresa Scanlan, won the 2011 Miss America Crown(...)

Pageant judge Joy Behar asked the contestant whether she would vote for an atheist.

"Yes," she answered.

She's not old enough to vote yet, but when Scanlan is of age, her vote will be based on political policies, not on religion.

Scanlan's response is in keeping with the ongoing results of an online poll at the website God Discussion, a site which deems itself "a place for seekers who do not want to go to church." At the time of this writing, of 323 respondents, 93% agree with Scanlan. A mere 5% have said they would not vote for an atheist, with only 2% unsure.

Surely, this is not a scientific poll. However, there are more reliable statistics which prompted the question.

One of the fastest growing 'religious' groups in America is the non-religious, which makes up at least 13% of the population. Among younger people, the percentage is even higher, at 35-40%.

This group is poorly represented in Congress, where the majority of members claim that they are Protestant, followed by Catholic as the second highest faith claimed by Congress members. Congress has only one atheist, Rep. Peter Stark of California.

How about it? Would you vote for an atheist? Such hypothetical questions are of limited practical use, since there are many factors which affect our regard for a real candidate. However, it is still interesting to consider what affect a candidate's professed atheism might have upon our vote if all else were equal.

Wow she’d vote for someone that doesn’t share the core values that she professes to have because somehow this persons policies will align with her own and be sincere...

Amazing...

If the atheists policies align with hers then it would be absolutely foolish, stupid and dangerous to not vote for them because you find their lack of faith disturbing.Gee vote for a so-called christian who believes in abortion, gun control, high taxes, etc or an atheist who supports none of them. The case is clear. Putting your faith before the nations welfare is foolish.

Nope. Humanism is why we are against Obamacare and treating people like machines and ranking them as to whether it’s best for society to fix them.

Atheism/humanism actually dehumanizes people and just makes us all arbitrary interchangeable parts per what society’s ever-shifting consensus happens to be at the time.

I would not vote for an atheist and one who supports abortion is not an observing Christian to start with. Which preserves our future as a nation? Politician's? Or GOD's Divine providence of which presides over the affairs of man and allows rulers and leaders to reflect the choices and hearts of the nations?

Leaders of nations are generally one of the two either a blessing or a judgement to that nation. The last time we had a POTUS where our nation grew in prosperity was when the last time this nation turned toward GOD as a people. The political structure of the world even changed and the Iron Curtain came down. That was in 1980 and 1984. History shows us as much. The fall of the Roman Empire as well was as much a moral one as a political and military one.

I would not vote for an atheist, wiccan, islamic, Buddhist, etc no matter their political position. Nor will I vote for one claiming to be Christian or Jew that supports issues contrary to GOD's laws and Commandments.

Hmm, possible exchange:

Behar: "Would you vote for an atheist?"
jla: "None of your business, we've a secret, or private, ballot in this country".
Behar: "Yeah, I know THAT. I didn't ask WHO you'd vote for I asked if you'd vote for an atheist?"
jla: "Well, dumbarse, if two people are in contention for an elected office and one an atheist, and I had stated I wouldn't vote for an atheist, then you would know whom I voted for, wouldn't you?"
Behar: ~legs crossed, kicking right foot up & down; sneer on face~ "Why don't you GO TO HELL, and take Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and every FU**ING conservative with you?!!!"
jla: "Are you an atheist?"
Behar: "None of your damn business! Why?"
jla: "Well, you've condemned me to Hell. So I wonder, if you're an atheist, why you would choose a locale created by God?"

We’re surely obsessed with statistics, aren’t we? “Some” even seek to use polls to nudge the rudderless into the “popular” position. “Haven’t you heard? It’s IN to be an atheist! Why, some 37.5% of college-educated swingers ...”

It’ll be interested to see the polls from Hell after Judgment Day.

This is a smart girl.

Her answer is just perfunctory. It isn’t in the least binding and she knew the answer the POS who asked it wanted.

Why would anyone make a POS like Joy Behar a Judge in the Miss America contest?

The fact that I’m an atheist myself doesn’t influence my vote in the slightest. My vote is based entirely on which party more closely represents my core values. Thus, I vote a straight Republican ticket regardless of the religious faith (or lack thereof) of the candidate in question.
