Just curious what people might think. Everybody has opinions and I'm wondering about the Walther PPK/S 380. Want a nice simple dependable carry gun. Already have larger rounds, never had the 380 but just wanted the PPK.
If you can live with the caliber, then it’s not a horrible choice. Walther hasn’t been keeping up with technology though. Without even looking, I’m sure that there are better .380’s out there. I’d suggest something larger though. Me, I’m still in love with the .45acp. .40SW and 10mm’s don’t impress me much.
The Walts are very nice little weapons, great for carry...and a decent deterrent. (I own two)
BUT......If you are concerned about personal defense....start with a caliber that begins with the number ‘4’
> I have heard that one needs to be a mechanic to take one
> apart and put it back together for cleaning purposes....
I’ve got one, and that’s not the case at all. Simple breakdown, simple reassembly.
Get a PK380 or Bersa instead. Cheaper and more reliable.
Buy a PA 63 in 9mm. Makarov. Clone of the PPK but more knockdown power .A hell of a lot cheaper and a great carry weapon. CZ 82 will work to.
It’s far better than a sharp stick. The elitists on this thread should understand that rather than ridiculing your choice.
Most .380s are blow-back operated and often have sharper recoil than 9 mm which are locked-breach, short recoil operated.
I have a Bersa 380, its a copy of a PPK with a few modifications. I don’t think the PPK has as many safety’s. I believe the 380 round is similar to the 9MM. ???
kurtz
I don’t get the love that some have for the 1911A. Other than I’m a fan of the ammo, I don’t get it. Honestly there are better weapons out there. I carry a Glock 21, and I’ve exceeded a thousand rounds through it, and I swear, not even a single stove-pipe. I can’t say that about any other semi-auto weapon I’ve ever owned.
> Finicky with which ammo you feed it. They jam.
Yes, indeed, mine is finicky. Have to be careful choosing HP, but ball ammo almost never jams.
Need to have a steady wrist, or the next round won’t load well. Use +P ammo and hold it tight, and it will cycle fine.
I’ve been meaning to take mine to the smith for some rework.
Learn to shoot single handed. Weaver stance is kinda silly for a small gun like that. It’s a close combat weapon.
Like I said, I have no experience. A friend has a PPK, I believe, in 9mm. It was manufactured shortly after WWII. He sez it’s a little time consuming.
Maybe he has no mechanical talent...
;-)

.380 ACP is also referred to as 9mm short.
Same diameter bullet, but shorter shell.
I love the feel of the gun. It doesn’t have the manual though, which is a bummer, and I don’t know how old it is. Thinking about calling the manufacturer, think that might be Smith and Wesson.
Also, question, why does is say “model PPK/S Cal 9mm kurz/380 ACP on side? What’s with the 9mm?? Is it just that the 380 is the same width as the 9mm?
Ah, I have a mid-90’s model, SS American made. Takedown might be somewhat different between the two, but I wouldn’t know.
Ruger semi autos. They will eat any ammo and keep shooting.
Have had one for 30 years...carried it for 15 in NYC when I lived there and had a carry. Great gun...no problem taking it apart and cleaning. Mine was manufactured in the USA, BTW...

YOu can probably find the manual on-line.
> Cal 9mm kurz/380 ACP on side
“kurz” is German for “short”, so 9mm short.
.380 ACP is the englischer caliber.
:)
Use a pin punch in the slot where the sight is located, just a couple of firm taps should raise enough metal to tighten it up.
