A CNN/Opinion research poll released Monday shows that a majority of Americans do not blame Sarah Palin for what has become known as the Tucson Massacre that left Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords fighting for her life after being shot in the head.

According to Politico, 59 percent of the 1,014 adults polled said Palin deserved little or no blame, while 35 percent said she was to blame for what happened.

Most of those polled - 70 percent - said the underlying cause was "resources available to deal with mental illness."

Shortly after the shooting, many on the left, including some in the media, pointed a finger at Sarah Palin and the use of crosshair graphics on an ad. As a result, Palin has seen an increase in death threats, while some have used Twitter to spread death wishes.

Politico also reported that respondents were split over whether rhetoric or access to guns played a part.

Fifty-two percent said lenient gun sale laws deserve either a “great deal” or a “moderate amount” of blame, while 47 percent believe gun laws should not be held responsible for the incident.

Roughly the same is true of political rhetoric, as 48 percent said its use deserves blame compared with 49 percent who said it does not.

One person who not only blamed Palin, but called her a traitor who should be incarcerated, was detained Saturday after he took a photograph of Tucson Tea Party leader Terry Humphries and declared "you're dead."

Of course it isn't her fault and most people know it, but the media just keeps pushing it.

That’s 35% who believe Palin caused the shootings and that’s about the same number that think Bush blew up the World Trade Center buildings (no airplanes). Scary to think we have that many nuts running around among us.

Eric Fuller also called everyone in the room "whores" and went into great detail about how after torturing them he would make a necklace from the ears of prominent Conservatives.

Fuller declared that he would put Bachmann and Palin's ears at the end, and Dick Cheney's in the middle. He's clearly given the matter a lot of thought.

You have to remember this is the CNN audience. That 35% probably know nothing about Sarah Palin, her policies, how she got to where she is or anything else. They just pick up the leftist line and support it.

It must be horribly frustrating for the media/democrats....for decades they could spout whatever line and talking point that they wanted to and, no matter how insane it seemed at first they could eventually sway people because there were no other voices.

It’s apparent that they need a new play book. The average person can now hit about 100 channels on the news and radio. When they switch between them and hear the EXACT same talking point being spewed by all of them its easier to see that this is a political tactict. Folks get wary of people trying to sell them snake oil.

I prefer to say: it’s a bloodlibel story, and it has become uncontrolled by the media.

They can’t catch a break. Sarah refused to be cowed, Jared turned out to be a Bush-hating Lefty of the most stereotypical kind, and now their media darling Fuller has revealed himself to be a bark-eating fanatic.
