Fox’s Brit Hume: Sarah Palin Is “Kind Of Radioactive”
Mediaite ^ | 1/16/11 | Matt Schneider

Posted on 01/16/2011 2:50:12 PM PST by markomalley

As more pundits react to Sarah Palin’s video response on the Arizona shooting, Fox’s Brit Hume professed he’s never in his life seen someone receive such vicious media coverage as Palin and attempted to broadly define the “Sarah Palin Problem” on Fox News Sunday.

Before Hume summed Palin up, Fox commentator Juan Williams shared his bewilderment over Palin’s tone and word choice in the video, and thought the whole thing was “unnecessary.” This “just gave her opponents such an opportunity then to excoriate her . . . and did not raise her stature,” Williams concluded. Brit Hume offered up his own perspective:

“The Sarah Palin problem really is a problem that she has largely, I think through no fault of her own, become kind of radioactive. And it does mean that when she is in a situation like this where she’s the focus of national attention, she must be extremely careful about how she reacts to it.”

Hume believes on balance this video didn’t help her and especially given the media’s “derangement syndrome” with trying to character assassinate her, would expect Palin to be more thoughtful with her public statements. Odd that throughout this whole ordeal, by far Palin’s strongest and unwavering supporter has not been any of her Fox News co-workers and instead has been MSNBC’s lonely conservative Pat Buchanan.

Without question, Sarah’s response was the first Presidential speech I have heard since the 80’s...The upcoming SOTU address will not, cannot compare.

“The Fox panel has lost their marbles and is just carrying water for the rest of the MSM the past two months.”

Remember Murdoch gave a bunch of cash to the RNC, Chamber of Commers and the Republican Governors Association.

I am guessing what Fox is doing to Palin is at the behest of Murdoch.

One can only hope you're correct. I'd hate to think so many genuinely conservative posters are afflicted by FDS (Fox Derangement Syndrome).

Moreover, after observing over the years how the Kos Kids and their allies are strikingly effective at mobilizing "Seminar Callers" to harass conservative talk radio shows, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised if they're now sending a lot of agents provocateurs over here to FR, in order to stir up sentiments against FNC.

What are these people supposed to do with their frustration and anger? Don’t tell them they need to be more “civil” about their rhetoiric when they feel this threatened at the level of their livelihood, property and culture. How are they supposed to “tone it down” when they feel this threatened? At least they are organizing politically and raising money to go to court, not resulting to violence.

Since dan Quayle was Quaylized it is standard operating procedure to attack until nothing is left .
I think for the most part Palin has been smart in her response ....I agree with the pundits had she said absolutely nothing the left would have looked worse and they might even have been forced to shut up. Responding to stupidity is not always the way to go

Well, to break into this discussion, I for one am tired of turning on Fox only to see some lib spewing while the host nods in agreement. This is especially true of their morning shows. I only watch now when they are just reading the news. The rest is crap. I'd rather get news here and other outlets online than Fox or the rest.

They do not report, you decide, rather they read something, then have some lib spinner glibly tell you - oh so subtly - how to decide.

A pox on the lot of them.

Brit Hume is not a jackass. If you read the excerpt, you will see that he said that if was “through no fault of her own”. And he is right. The media have done such a job on this woman, and her family, that she is “radioactive”.
I have been paying attention to politics all of my life. My family was always interested and there were a lot of conversations about it. In all that time, I have never seen the kind of treatment that Sarah Palin has endured over the past three years. Also, I have never seen anyone’s minor children treated in such a shameful manner. However, it has taken it’s toll on her (as Mr. Hume stated) through no fault of her own.

Agreed. I think Sarah did what she had to do. I don’t think the point was to “benefit” herself, but to make the point that she would not stand for the false charges. Brit was right to the extent that it didn’t benefit her — but that wasn’t her goal. He’s also right that she’s “radioactive” — at least to the MSM ‘powers that be’ — but that too is through no fault of her own, ANd that may actually redound to her BENEFIT in the long run.

Now, as to all the harping on FoxNews — chill out! I don’t want FNC to become a Conservative CNN or MSNBC. There NEEDS to be different views represented there. Look at the programming — there are still PLENTY of Conservative and alternative programs that counter the crap the MSM throws out at us. FoxNews is STILL the best news network out there, hands down. Don’t deep six them just because some of the analysts, pundits and reporters don’t see things as you do. MANY of them DO. (and Brit Hume happens to be one of them).

oh, please! You are expecting Brit’s comments to be read and understood dispassionately?

These guys have dumped a bucket of slop over her head and are now complaining that she smells bad. Her video was one of her best and most presidential speeches. She had the “gravitas” that they had complained she lacked.

Blaming her for anything in connection with Tucson is just like blaming FoxNews if one of their viewers held up a liquor store. No politician is responsible for what one of their supporters does independently and this guy wasn’t one of her supporters, so what are they talking about? If they buy into this logical disconnect, democrats will take surveys of prison inmates and find a large percentage watched Foxnews and use that to take them off of cable.

If they are going to be so critical of her statement, why don’t they play it in full so that people can judge for themselves? We report, You decide. I’ve heard hours of complaining about an 8 minute speech.

Did either of those clowns even watch the video? I normally like Hume, but this is over the top. The video was very good and appropriate.

When FReepers are criticizing Brit Hume, it’s a sign they’ve gone over the edge. Palin is capable of making mistakes. Is it controversial to even hint at that here now?

Fact is the Tea Party MUST be muzzled. Sarah Palin MUST be muzzled and STOPPED for the Obama Express to keep on chugging. Whatever it takes.

Brit, although basically a good guy, is falling victim to being inside the Beltway Bubble Echo Chamber.
