The other day outgoing White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told us they were surprised by the applause at the pep rally memorial service in Tucson.
I will say that I read the speech several times and thought that there wouldn’t be a lot of applause if any. I think many of us thought that. But I think there was a celebration, again, of the lives of those who had been impacted. Not just at that grocery store but throughout the country. And I think that, if that is part of the healing process, then that’s a good thing.
That’s odd, since the Jumbotron instructed people to applaud.
It’s closed captioning.

Actually, that’s a statement by a stenotypist. He or she is simply reporting the fact that there was applause after the statement. It’s a concession to deaf viewers.
Are you sure this was not closed captioned? It would appear like that if their was applause and the typist was just captioning the sounds being made.

Self-reference criterion; the One needs TOTUS to be able to string together coherent sentences, figured the crowd did too. All that was missing was the balloon drop.
Ah, I see...so it was reporting (to the deaf) what was happening (people were applauding). I appreciate you pointing that out. Somehow, I still don’t believe the applause was sincere - like maybe another stacked audience with Obamabots to ‘lead’ others to applaud.
What is this, some live audience TV game show?
An obvious attempt to force the deaf spastics in the audience to trip and fall down the stadium stairways.
Applause at a memorial service is always inappropriate.
Obama's speech was being closed captioned for the deaf but when the idiot students in the audience saw the word "applause" on the Jumbotron, being the brainwashed little Obots they are, they thought they were being prompted to applaud.
Why am I NOT surprised...
brackets around applause are a stenographers way of sharing what is happening that is nonverbal.
We’ll see of they are applauding after the results of raising the debt limit, spending it in record time, raising taxes and the cost of living goes through the roof. They can twist Unemployment statistics to appear that the economy is booming when in reality we are and have been in a deep depression for months.
But they can propagandize it into Utopia, and will, but The result will be the same. Sooner or later, they can’t keep lying to the Public without them figuring it out.
