It's been a bad week and frankly I don't really care that much about this weekend's games because my Eagles will be watching them on TV. Still you might care, so.
The Armageddon bowl, so called by the Ravens secondary, pits the Steelers against the Ravens. It's probably the best game of the weekend and it happens first, 4:30 PM ET Saturday on CBS. The Steelers are a 3½ point favorite and that seems about right to me. The Steelers are home and their QB is better.
At 8 PM ET Saturday on Fox the Packers visit the Falcons. The Falcons are only a 2½ point fave, which probably tells you something. Why does the NFL force the Packers to play on a short week? Why? Shall we call this The NFL Scheduling Mystery Bowl?
When a team knocks your team out of the playoffs do you root for them on the theory it makes your team look better? Or do you take the bitterness route and root against them? I've always been kind of bitter myself, but I think the Falcons could be a fraud. I'll flip a coin before kick off.
Meanwhile Seattle gets an extra day to prepare for da Bears. Won't matter, this week the Seahawks find out that 10 point underdogs actually do lose sometimes. Bears are home, Bears are hungry, Bears are well rested. That's 1 PM ET on Fox. I call that one the Toilet bowl, I don't think it's going to be a very good game.
Last, but not least, is the Sunday 4:30 PM ET game on CBS between the Patriots and the Jets. The Patriots at home, in the playoffs, and the Jets just keep talking anyway. What shall we call this? The Foot Bowl? The Big Mouth Bowl? (as if we're sponsoring it)? How about the Foot In Mouth Bowl? Vegas says Pats by 9 and Vegas maybe right.
Okay, listen, last week we put up polls so you could pick the games and like 2 of you decided to take part. Hundreds of page views and 2 stinkin' votes. It doesn't cost anything, you're not risking your kid's lunch money or anything like that. You won't suddenly be flooded with e-mails for online gambling. It takes about 5 seconds. I'll put the picks up in the sidebar, please feel free, because it is free and it will just spoil all the fun if you don't.
Have a good, non-eventful weekend.

Just be thankful you don’t live in L.A.
I do subscribe to the any given Sunday theory, and think the Jets would win about 1 in 5 over the Pats. After watching Rex Ryans luck this season, I have no reason to believe it will not continue.
That was funny, of course if they don’t come up with a CBA it maybe September 12th 1 PM 2012.
Actually the loss of Damien Woody and Drew Coleman, after the recent loss of Jim Leonhard could really hurt the Jets this week.
Especially since they appear to be spending more time flapping their gums than prepping for the game.
Yeah way to misremember the not too distant past sparky, this is what I wrote last week:
“The Saints maybe the best team in the NFC right now and the Seahawks don't even deserve to be in the playoffs. However, installing a team as a 10 point road favorite is a little like declaring a ship unsinkable before her maiden voyage. “
It was a hedge, okay? I had the Seahawks at least covering the spread.
Jets winning is a bold choice, gotta respect that. Don't agree with it, but gotta respect it.
It’s called hate. Part of what makes Steelers-Ravens games so awesome. That and the fact that they’re two nearly identical teams in both style and quality. Often time when watching them I wish I were a fan of some third team so I wouldn’t have a rooting interest, when these teams play it is just awesome football exactly the way I like to see it played.
I don’t know, Rex seems to gain power when he flaps his gums. He really is perfect for a NY football team, he never leaves the press bored and he doesn’t actually care what they say.
What does being a Wild Card have to do with playing on a short week? The Jets (who played last Saturday) could easily have played the Saturday game this week and the Ravens played on Sunday.
Did ya miss the first 2 words of my comment?....I believe.
Obviously, I was incorrect. I likened it to the baseball wild card playoffs.
Ditto the Pats-Jets. IF GB winds up playing the Bears next week (a good possibility), that'll be a war, too. None of these teams like each other very much.
The Super Bowl might be played by the practice squads.
Ooooookay......
You have made my week. Your the last of the music when I hear Eagle fans crying. Actually when it comes to the team they are fun to watch. It is the Eagle fans that are the turnoff.
BTW, nice blog.

If you didn’t know how strong Lynch was, you might think the video was doctored the way Porter rockets off of Lynch. As a Seahawk fan, I’m hoping for good things to happen tomorrow in Chicago. And if the Seahawks and Packers should meet next week at Quest field for the NFC title, well, FUGGETTABOUTIT! Seattle will be headed for Dallas. :)
I’ve lived for the last 30 years near Seattle, so I know enough to NEVER bet against the Hawks!
But they’re gonna need a little luck tomorrow.
I take that back. They’re gonna need ALOT of luck tomorrow!
My feeling is Bears by 3...
