Most Americans have soundly rejected every crazy idea put forward by the liberal media regarding the root cause of the Arizona shooting.
A new theory is now being advanced by some in the media.
The phrase "blood libel" used by Sarah Palin in her video was really some kind of a super-secret code to be used as a signal to Palin's base.
Jennifer Epstein of Politco writes:
Sarah Palins use of the charged term blood libel may not have been an accidental blunder, but a deliberate dog whistle appeal to her evangelical Christian supporters for whom the expression has meaning, commentators and others are saying.
An interesting phrase - dog whistle. Either Epstein is alluding to the notion that those who support Palin are little more than dogs, or the phrase is so secret it can only be understood by those who speak her language. Either way, the notion is more than silly, it is insulting.
Epstein quoted Political Wire founder Taegan Goddard, who wrote while its not entirely clear what Palin intended, its possible she was trying to use dog whistle politics to speak to her religious base who often feel theyre an oppressed minority.
But according to some on the left, Palin is so stupid she doesn't even know what the term means, and Congressman James Clyburn said Palin was "intellectually unable" to understand the issue of rhetoric.
Epstein wrote that MSNBC host Ed Shultz spoke to this on his show Wednesday night:
Many people think shes used the term blood libel as an appeal to an extremist Christian conservative base for 2012
Just once, it would be nice if liberals got their messages right.

There was already the perfectly adequate term “speaking in code.” Welcome to the age of the picturesque two-word sound bite.
I figured it out.
‘MASSACRE, BLOOD LIBEL’ is an anagram of “OBAMAS’LL LOSE DE CRIB,” which is an obvious Ebonic prediction that the First Family will soon be leaving the White House.
Oh God, is Laz behind this?
Of course they do it. What else could "wee weed up" be but a code? ;-)
Ezactly. If I can stoop to the level of the schoolyard for a moment, they started it. Now that we’re getting some good licks in it’s time for civility.
I'd love to help you but, if I provide the code for today you'll just be back wanting tomorrow's, and on and on. Do what I, and millions of others who want to be in the know have done, make a generous donation the Palin for President effort and get your very own “Sarah Secret Decoding Ring”. It worked for the Lone Ranger and Jet Jackson, and it still works.
Don't ask, and I won't tell...

I also think that "blood libel" was an appropriate phrase to describe libels accusing the targets of having the blood of innocents on their hands. Just as "blood libel" was used to inflame violent passions against Jews, this past week's blood libel has attempted (and in cases succeeded) in inflaming violent passions against Palin, Tea Party members, and Republicans in general. There have been death threats against Palin and other conservatives.
What a hilarious thread, great stuff, typical high humor for FReepers. Someone that knows how ought to make sure that Joe Newby gets a copy of this thread complete with comments.
FR once again brightens my day—and thanks!
Amen, Jonathan. Such widespread, irrational, and intense hatred for a politician who hasn't yet even announced her candidacy for national office beats all I've ever seen.
That's no "new" theory. It's just another blood libel.
I haven't used a decoder ring since the Forties when I decoded the messages of Sky King.
Palin has exhibited a distinct ability to "strike a nerve" in the leftist leadership.
Remember "death panels"? Now "blood libel".
There's a lesson here: Both descriptions are "extreme", to be sure. But both are absolutely true. And, when you're addressing the left, the truth hurts...
Well said...
She's a first rate spokesperson...
The reason why this coded messages meme is so horrible is it is another way to push for de facto speech codes or hate speech laws. They literally want to ban words in this country, and destroy anyone who does not think like them.
All this talk of codes and dog whistles, I wish we were that organized.
