Who caused the stormy political situation in America?
freerepublic.com ^ | 1/13/11 | Sara Johnson

My husband and I were talking tonight and that is always a good thing because he is smart as a whip and to the point and I always learn from him when he opens up. He rarely engages me in political talk because I am basically "too involved" in his opinion. That usually means I know more than he knows about politics.

Anyway, he brought up how odd it was to see clapping and cheering at the memorial service last night. In fact, he had to stop watching the "show" because it upset him too much. It broke his heart to see Americans acting like low class idiots enmass. We rarely watch television and even more rare that we watch it together unless it is a movie we are sharing.

Then he began talking about the polarized political atmosphere in America. He felt it was as bad or even worse than the Viet Nam days. He wondered out loud why everyone did not understand what caused all the anger over the health care leglislation. He still has a misplaced respect and trust in the "mainstream" media, expecting them to at least go though the motions of acting as a press in a Democratic Republic.

He said: They did not discuss and debate the leglislation like they usually do in panels on television and in newspaper editorials. He, as an American, missed not hearing everyone's point of view concerning the proposed leglislation and understanding the details of the leglislation. When liberals decided to keep the bill secret right through the vote, he said it was no wonder Americans because frantically angry and upset. That is not the way our government has ever worked before in his time on earth.

His conclusion: When people feel they have no input and no influence on elected leaders (no Democracy), they feel hopeless and angry. It is liberals who caused this anger at town hall meetings because they totally ignored the democratic process and made Americans feel as if they were living under a careless and brainless third world dictatorship.

He is so right. It is liberals who caused the rage of the Tea Party by doing what they did - hiding that bill from the public and even Congressional inspection and debate and voting on it against the will of the people, as proven by likely voter polls. They did not show the public the respect of even presenting it to them for examination and debate.

The energy of the Tea Party was like the freight train meeting the freight train of the elitist liberals ramming through that leglislation which will effect the lives of every American.

If politicans want to see more public rage and it's ensuing danger to their precious lives, they need to keep up the elitism that tells them there is no need to solicit the "stupid" American public's input on legislation and governance. They think the peaceful, abet angry, Tea Party protests were bad! It really can and will get much worse if the liberals keep up the dictatorship illusion of their radical Marxist ideology.

Finally, when our elected officials really need to worry is when the people are too intimidated by the Left's use of the FBI to participate in government as happened to Republican Billy Long of Montana.

If liberals ever managed to keep the lid on a steaming pot of public interaction with our government through police intimidation, elected leaders will be inviting interaction by another means whether we all want it or not. There are not enough FBI agents and body guards to protect them from the public reaction to a dictatorship. This is not a bannana republic population to fit Obama's bannana republic attitude and methods.

Liberals and their friends across the aisle have the power to make Homeland Security's smear of Americans as all dangerous potential terrorists a reality by continuing to oppress and sideline the democratic process. Americans don't make for compliant subjects.

Because I do not desire political violence, I hope the attempted crackdown on Amerians being created by the Democrats through FBI shake downs, fails to shut anyone up or curtail their lawful political and social expression. Please, no steam building up under police state pressure in the melting pot! They will fail at this if we just continue on as if they don't have the power to shut us up. Because they don't!

Right. We have made ourselves absolutely clear in a clear majority. I hope they don’t think it is a great idea to ignore the people again.

America has been much more stormy in its past than today.

You’re observation about the natural chivalry response from REAL men, when it comes to the incredibly disgusting attacks on Governor Palin, is an astute one.

I have long considered myself, (in my small way), as a ferocious pulling guard clearing the way for Sarah Palin’s hopefully long downfield run.

The reason behind today's situation is simple. The left’s monopoly on the media is over. From the New Deal right thru Reagan's term in office the left has dominated the mass media in the name of objectivity. Growing up in the seventies every newspaper and TV news outlet was dominated by the liberals. Every story had the same meme, Democrats good, Republicans bad. Our side at the time just accepted it. The old Bob Michel Republicans were just happy to let the left run everything as long as nobody fooled with their tee times. There was no debate of the issues. The media told you to think like a good liberal. There were a few conservatives crying in the wilderness, but for the most part conservatives would apologize first for having a different opinion than the accepted one. Every interview in the media was the same. The Democrat was treated with kid gloves, while the Republican was badgered into submission. Every political scandal ended the same way, the Democrat always survived while the Republican would resign in a flash. As a conservative you felt helpless. You felt like you were the only one in the entire country who was a conservative. You never heard anyone in the media who shared your views. At the end of the 80’s, it all began to change. First Talk radio, than the internet, and finally Fox News. All of a sudden you could turn on Fox News, and find others who felt the same way, and they were treated with respect. With their large ratings you knew there were others out there just like yourself. The left found its monopoly over opinion over and they did not like it one bit. The media could no longer ignore us as in the past. In probably the dumbest business decision every made, the left media companies responded by attacking with no stops half of their past audience. This has resulted in their current death spiral, but they seem to not care. So here we are in our current situation. One the left characterizes as bad for our country, but we know differently. What we know is that our Democracy has been renewed, we now have true debate, not total conformity. For now the left will continue their temper tantrum, but when their fortunes are at there lowest they will understand they need to compete, not stamp their feet.

Therefore I consider people that bemoan the lack of “bipartisanship” and “reaching across the isle” as naive at best and more than likely, ignorant of the true nature of politics.

My husband is not “bi-partisan.” He's a constitutional American-American guy all the way. No comprise on that and he's always behind that. Socialism makes him ill. He just would rather me pay attention to the disgusting nitty gritty than him.

He knows more physics than all of us. He a musician and artist, too. These things he needs to do in his spare time and with his mind. He escorts me to Tea Parties.

Sounds like you’re reconsidering your “smart as a whip” assessment? :)

I totally agree with you on the media. That is why they are going for imposing a regulation “fairness doctrine” at the FCC and moving in to make people identify themselves on the internet. That way if you post an opinion they don’t like, they can get you fired from your job and harass you at your house. Will Obama get away with getting talk radio turned off and shutting down free expressiin on the Internet through the FCC?

My mother was gleefully watching this the other night when I stopped by. I said the exact same thing to her. I think I spoiled her mood as she a light clicked on that maybe I was right. The clapping a cheering was so disrespectful. It was a political speech- plain as day.

The past 50 years? The genesis imho began with the left's hatred of Nixon. (I realize I am speaking as probably one of the few on the board who remember RMN AND that I am only thinking of the history in my lifetime...which is of course not always accurate.)

Think about it though: Nixon was a pretty liberal guy on domestic policy...EPA, price controls, etc. but the liberals HATED HIM with a passion.

The Bork episode also engendered a lot of turmoil...and, in retrospect, one might even say the Republican pursuit of the Bent One, William J. Blythe Clinton, caused a lot of angst on the other side.

Obviously the blind and insane hatred for Dubya is the most recent example.

I am sad and angry we have allowed a Marxist like Hussein to take his teleprompter and pretend to lead the executive branch. Hopefully we'll correct that mess in 2012, and this will be a short Jimmy Carter-length span in our history.

Politics is two wolves and a sheep deciding who is for breakfast.

Let’s keep it civil, now.

The tyrannical implementation of the socialist model upon a free society over the protests of the American citizens.

Pure and simple.

If the politicians and bureaucrats want civility, they need to stop attacking the Peoples liberty! I think you are correct with your analysis. Also when they act like Nancy Pelosi, and demean the public when asked about the Constitutionality of the health care takeover. Nancy, are you kidding me? The People don’t like it when you act like you are above the law!

I’ve got a question for you: how can your husband see all of this and still not think that it is worth his time to take an interest in political things?

I didn't take a real interest in politics until my children were born.

I'd like them to have the country I was raised in, to grow up knowing freedom and loving it.

The left started all this in the 1960’s and 1970’s, with their confrontational politics. They hate it when it’s turned against them, which is why they are whining about it now.

We must watch out for the MSM to now start with the mantra that ANY dissent from the policies of Obama or even Congress behaviour somehow makes Americans EXTREMIST.

The American People are NOT the enemy. We must remember that and hold strong. We must push back on the media and Dumocrat plan to portray anyone that disagrees with the “State” as dangerous and must be investigated, harassed.
As far as Congress is concerned, where was the outrage when Eric Cantors office was being attacked? He is Jewish. Oh that’s right, he’s a REPUBLICAN, nevermind.

The vultures in the media and Congress believe that the “illiterate, reactionary, racist” American Public are not capable of mounting a sustained National movement to force all of them to adher to the Constitution and the WILL OF THE PEOPLE.
This is perceived as a direct threat to their agenda. The Tea Party has stated that new Congress members are being watched and are on Probation. although the Tea Party Members of Congress understand the purpose of the statement. Those that have been there for years and the Dums consider this a Threat. The People have been “watching” congress forever, thus their abysmal polling numbers.
The remarks of Nancy Pelosi on the passing of HCR were quite telling. She stated with a smirk and laugh that only a true despot could muster: We had to pass the bill (sniff sniff) so that the people (read the herd) could see what was in it”
We must not allow some members of Congress to paint the AMERICAN PEOPLE as dangerous. Sending FBI agents to innocent citizens homes to intimidate them, just for having the audacity to ask their Congressperson a question. This behaviour is not healthy for a Republic and must not be allowed to proceed to the next step.
One thing we all must realize is that the anti-Republic minions populating the American electorate are without imagination. They live in a stagnant cesspool of ideas. ie: the use of “Together We Thrive” is a recycled Zero Campaign slogan.
Many are to young to even understand that all the Left is rolling out now, has been said and done before. Interestingly, these are the very same people and ideas that led to riots and deaths in the late 60’s and 70’s.

Sorry for the rant, but it needed to be said.
