My husband and I were talking tonight and that is always a good thing because he is smart as a whip and to the point and I always learn from him when he opens up. He rarely engages me in political talk because I am basically "too involved" in his opinion. That usually means I know more than he knows about politics.
Anyway, he brought up how odd it was to see clapping and cheering at the memorial service last night. In fact, he had to stop watching the "show" because it upset him too much. It broke his heart to see Americans acting like low class idiots enmass. We rarely watch television and even more rare that we watch it together unless it is a movie we are sharing.
Then he began talking about the polarized political atmosphere in America. He felt it was as bad or even worse than the Viet Nam days. He wondered out loud why everyone did not understand what caused all the anger over the health care leglislation. He still has a misplaced respect and trust in the "mainstream" media, expecting them to at least go though the motions of acting as a press in a Democratic Republic.
He said: They did not discuss and debate the leglislation like they usually do in panels on television and in newspaper editorials. He, as an American, missed not hearing everyone's point of view concerning the proposed leglislation and understanding the details of the leglislation. When liberals decided to keep the bill secret right through the vote, he said it was no wonder Americans because frantically angry and upset. That is not the way our government has ever worked before in his time on earth.
His conclusion: When people feel they have no input and no influence on elected leaders (no Democracy), they feel hopeless and angry. It is liberals who caused this anger at town hall meetings because they totally ignored the democratic process and made Americans feel as if they were living under a careless and brainless third world dictatorship.
He is so right. It is liberals who caused the rage of the Tea Party by doing what they did - hiding that bill from the public and even Congressional inspection and debate and voting on it against the will of the people, as proven by likely voter polls. They did not show the public the respect of even presenting it to them for examination and debate.
The energy of the Tea Party was like the freight train meeting the freight train of the elitist liberals ramming through that leglislation which will effect the lives of every American.
If politicans want to see more public rage and it's ensuing danger to their precious lives, they need to keep up the elitism that tells them there is no need to solicit the "stupid" American public's input on legislation and governance. They think the peaceful, abet angry, Tea Party protests were bad! It really can and will get much worse if the liberals keep up the dictatorship illusion of their radical Marxist ideology.
Finally, when our elected officials really need to worry is when the people are too intimidated by the Left's use of the FBI to participate in government as happened to Republican Billy Long of Montana.
If liberals ever managed to keep the lid on a steaming pot of public interaction with our government through police intimidation, elected leaders will be inviting interaction by another means whether we all want it or not. There are not enough FBI agents and body guards to protect them from the public reaction to a dictatorship. This is not a bannana republic population to fit Obama's bannana republic attitude and methods.
Liberals and their friends across the aisle have the power to make Homeland Security's smear of Americans as all dangerous potential terrorists a reality by continuing to oppress and sideline the democratic process. Americans don't make for compliant subjects.
Because I do not desire political violence, I hope the attempted crackdown on Amerians being created by the Democrats through FBI shake downs, fails to shut anyone up or curtail their lawful political and social expression. Please, no steam building up under police state pressure in the melting pot! They will fail at this if we just continue on as if they don't have the power to shut us up. Because they don't!

I’ve got a question for you: how can your husband see all of this and still not think that it is worth his time to take an interest in political things? It’s like seeing someone get mugged and just walking away. Except in this case, we’re ALL getting mugged.
Nice rant! Sincerely!
Spot on. Speaker Boehner should get a copy of this. That is the reason Rush is a megastar. He knows how we feel and what we are thinking and he has that golden EIB mic to amplify our thoughts.
Well, he’s the strong silent type but he’s not asleep. Politics just is not his thing although he is quite an observer and he never resists what I do because he knows I know more about the details of what’s going on than him.
He supports me while I do my thing and I mostly use his money to do my thing! So that tells you something about him. He just doesn’t say much - he’s like that. We love each other the way we are. Me the blabbermouth. Him, the way smart but quiet hammer kinda guy. He has his own territory in life carved out. I love him and the way he is.

All the unusual magnitude of participation from yelling and hollaring citizens at Town Hall meetings the Congress critters experienced as they were prepared to impose a secret death care system on the people. It frightened them because they thought we would be passive about it.

You said it. So, when they take away Rush, and they will try, then what? They will try to shut “us” up next.
Thanks, Don Carlos.
I get the impression from the way Boehner handled the witch hunt hysteria in the aftermath of the Arizona shooting that he gets it. I think he knows that the knee jerk reationary days of unread leglislation is over. King of New York and Cantor are just beginning to figure that out.
I’m glad I wasnt the only one who saw the campaign rally atmosphere as sacrilege. When I saw the printed teeshirts laided out it disgusted me. I dont entirely blame Obama even though his speech was so very off. Couldnt he for just a moment drop the condescending tone? The “I know everything crap?”. Listening to and reading the pundits is almost mentally painful given the degree of intellectual dishonesty on display not the mention that far too many even conservatives have gotten confused concerning the value of straight talk offerred by Sarah Palin and spin that is acceptable to the political class. I personally am tired of them. They are so dark and slimy that my soul recoils from them just watching them soil themselves publicly on tv saying crap they have to know is contrived bs. They think they can manipulate us and sometimes they do succeed but many are awake and more are awakening and those in power could only be so lucky if it were only an army of mad men that they faced.
Any reading of quality American history such as the essential “Patriot’s History of the United States” will reveal that “stormy” political discourse is nothing new.
The current “storminess” is driven by the long overdue, but VERY healthy and encouraging pushback from conservatives against the ongoing, now deades long, move toward socialism, which has accelerated alarmingly under the racist Kenyan usurper.
America has been much more stormy in its past than today.
What is going on now is a culture shift from New York/LA media centers and Washington centered public policy making to independent media and state and local people who make the country work finally taking a stand.
All made possible by a technology the government as of yet has been unable to control.
“Ive got a question for you: how can your husband see all of this and still not think that it is worth his time to take an interest in political things? Its like seeing someone get mugged and just walking away. Except in this case, were ALL getting mugged.”
Great question!
I, too, used to think that politics was a dirty game a waste of time, until I finally asked myself, what exactly is politics?
And after a bit of pondering, I came to the realization that politics is about my self interest. Politics is a fight for your interests. Thus you have a choice. You can stay on the sidelines and let other people decide what’s best for you or you can get in the game, join people that share your interests, and try to affect those decisions.
The other thing that I realized is that, politics is a perpetual tug of war. It is a constant struggle. It was, it is, and will always be. The reason is simple - people have different interests and they will constantly struggle to promote them.
Therefore I consider people that bemoan the lack of “bipartisanship” and “reaching across the isle” as naive at best and more than likely, ignorant of the true nature of politics.
I agree. Liberals are classless and slimy.
It gives me hope that my husband was so disgusted with the “memorial”, he turned off the televison. He has a lot more tolerance than I do for the crazy stuff because he does not watch it build day to day.
“He still has a misplaced respect and trust in the “mainstream” media, expecting them to at least go though the motions of acting as a press in a Democratic Republic.”
Man, if he still has respect for the mainstream media, love is indeed blind, for you to describe him as “smart as a whip”.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but those two things just seem so incongruous.
Saul Alinsky, for teaching communists how to deploy hate as a political weapon.
PS: Hillary Clinton, was a staunch follower of comrade Alinsky. Sometimes referred to as the “father of Community Organizing”.
A familiar term there. Community Organizing...
I agree with your hubby.
As long as pols continue to meddle in our lives, stealing our earnings and private healthcare for generations to come...then they had better prepare for things to get worse.
“The current storminess is driven by the long overdue, but VERY healthy and encouraging pushback from conservatives”...

Wholeheartedly agree.
Don’t know how many FReepers are flying a Palin bumper sticker yet. I have been, and have noticed a complete sea change in the amount of other drivers checking out the sticker, then me. I grinned just a bit at a lady today I saw looking quizically, and it seemed to have been the right thing to do. Remember, Palin’s a lot of things - but she’s also a woman.
The left is really starting to veer wildly into the politics of intimidation and attack.
On some level, that will drive a lot of women, to her defense. Certainly men are reflexively chivalrous when a woman is attacked - but even the ladies get it, at some point.
There’s a possibility, if we unapologetically stand up and don’t accept the left’s meme, to really turn things upside down for the left.
This is our defining moment.
Seize it, without hesitation, nor doubt.
Stand up.
I know. He refuses to pay attention to those things with a critical eye. He also never sees dust balls on the floor. NEVER.
