The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a request to reopen a lawsuit that charged energy companies with contributing to the effects of Hurricane Katrina by emitting greenhouse gases. The result means victory for about 30 energy companies that were being sued by Mississippi homeowners who claimed that by emitting greenhouse gases, the companies helped cause global warming and exacerbated Katrinas wrath.
The Supreme Court was asked to step in after so many members of the 16-judge 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had recused themselves that it could not conduct a rehearing of a partially successful appeal of the suit.
At issue for the nations highest court was the question of whether the 5th Circuit should have dismissed the appeal after determining that it lacked a quorum.
Under the circuit courts rules, the courts original three-judge decision in favor of the homeowners had been vacated after the full court agreed to rehear the case, and the appeal was dismissed by the failure to get a quorum.

I detect signs of intelligent life on this planet after all.
“by emitting greenhouse gases, the companies helped cause global warming and exacerbated Katrinas wrath.”
o.k.... by rejecting the myth of global warming.... will this also apply to NOT GIVING ANY MORE $ to IT!!!!????
what is good for the goose.....
Decisions like this are the only thing that I can see that will rescue our society from the radical greenies.

The Supreme Court is in fashion again. lol. Last week they were the enemy. This week they are fine. They went from Zero to Hero in a very short time. lol.
What did they do last week that was so unpopular?
The wonder is that it got this far. The local judge should have not only thrown it out, but also forcibly ripped the law licenses from the walls of the attorneys filing suit.

How about putting forth this as a case to say that global warming has gone into the realm of dogma and not science. I’m also annoyed by the choice of words they used here. What do they mean by Katrina’s wrath? Gaia or some sort of old druidic faith? There’s plenty of other logical reasons as to what was going on wrong in the Gulf states with that hurricane, such as poorly organized evacuation plans for the states, districts, and cities, in the event of a hurricane. For someone who claims to be a person of reason that’s among the biggest sacks of dogma I have ever heard from them.
It's a local thing. Folks get plastered by a horrific storm, they give it near mythic powers. We still speak in terms of BC & AC (Before Camille and After Camille). That one was in 1969.
They all personalities, Betsy, Opal, Fredrick, Georges....
I hope that those who brought this lawsuit have to pay restitution 10 times over for this frivolousness.
Somehow, “the courts” stumbled into a sane conclusion to the matter.
And the future of the world’s economy rests on a single man; just a slim 5-4 majority (sometimes, not even that!) is all that is between us and the world’s socialists.
Could it simply be that the court did not necessarily reject the principle of AGW, but reject a sufficient nexus between the actions of the defendants and the harm that befell the complainants?
I had no idea that phony lawsuits were being leveled against energy companies. The loony part of this whole story is that this case actually made it to the U.S. Supreme Court! I’m glad someone is using their heads in this discussion.

Scary!
