The Bowl Championship Series is the worst thing ever to happen to college football. If anything, the BCS destroys a chance for quality teams to face off every year. I like bowls. I enjoy all of the games. I enjoy watching Southern Mississippis offense every December. I enjoy seeing some of the smaller FBS schools, like San Diego State, Nevada and Troy get some national exposure. But I hate the BCS. It destroys rivalries, burns its chance to create new rivalries and alienates teams from getting into the national title hunt.

Even an 8 team playoff would be a 1000% improvement. I also miss a new Years day packed with games...
Me Too. This is part of the total collapse of our country.
One thing I don’t like about the BCS is this stretching the bowl games over so long a time. A championship game on January 10 is just dopey. The BCS has delivered what it said it would deliver and that is the two best teams playing each other. If there was no BCS then we would have perhaps Oregon going to the Rose Bowl playing Big Ten champ Wisconsin while Auburn would have gone to the Sugar Bowl to perhaps play Stanford or TCU. So the good thing about the BCS is that we get the two best teams playing each other. We just argue over who the two best teams are. My idea is just as the BCS chooses two teams we should have a committee of credibility choose four teams and we could have those four teams play each other on New Years Day and then a week later have the two winners play each other.
Agreed...seems everyone wants to destroy traditions that we’ve known & loved for decades in this nation.
It is pure Fantasy FB. We need a Championship series that allows the 6 major Conference Champions and 2 at large league champions to have a 3 game playoff. Then every team in America has a chance.
Go Ducks!
I disagree. If you watch the sports with payoffs, you will see out of sight teams win all the time. I don’t want some drunk sports writers that can’t hold real jobs telling me anything. I want to see final scores. That tells me what I want to know.
“So the good thing about the BCS is that we get the two best teams playing each other.”
At the Rose Bowl? Yeah, I have to agree with you. That was an exceptional game. Perfect for the national champions.
there’ll never be a playoff as long as the Big 10 is making money hand over fist w the B10 network. Granted the B10 lost all 5 games the other day, but the only way it might happen is through govt intervention ... and we know how well that works.
As bad is the system is this should be a great game.
Go Oregon!!
I wish someone could come with ideas to make this happen. I guess boycotting these pathetic matchups on TV would be a start. It was ridiculous to have Oklahoma playing Connecticut and Boise State playing Utah, white Virginia Tech was in a BCS bowl game-—pathetic.
If you look at the coaches poll, then compare it to the other polls, they are all pretty much in line.
There are 11 major conferences. I don’t have a problem with the winners of the 11 conferences and 5 “wildcards” to Play an additional 3-4 games.
Question is when will they play? This isn’t the NFL and this isn’t their jobs. Playing 4 more weekends equals the schools paying for travel for close to 100 people several more times.
Tomorrow night we get infamous “cactus” bowl (formerly the cereal bowl) between East Michigan and Delaware!! (honest!! I did not know that Delaware had a football field!) You can’t make this up. I will never let this classic interfere with my watching of the Weather Channel!!
How can Oregon beat teams with players that are illegal payoff players, in my opinion. No Chance!!!
No to the BCS and no to playoffs. Let’s bring back the bowl system the way it used to be. And let’s thin it out, eliminating the Godaddy Bowl, etc.
Playoff games are “Home and Home” games to fill stadiums. Bowl games are history. You have the seeded team with home field advantage. You talk about tv ratings!! You can’t even imagine. This corrupt bowl game crap must be stamped out.
A playoff would be preferable to what they have now.
But I prefer the old days, when the last game was on New Years Day. Every game on New Years was an important game. Since it really doesn’t matter who the national champion is, there was a coaches poll and a writers poll. And sometimes there were 2 undefeated teams, and sometimes they didn’t play each other.
It worked out fine. There was no real pressing need for any of this BCS talk.
Now conferences are pretty much pointless. Nebraska in the Big 10? Why? So we really can’t go back to the old days, when it was better.
Back in the old days, too, these football games were on network TV. There are 35 bowl games this year, and 32 were on ESPN or ESPN2 or another version of ESPN. The BCS championship game is on ESPN.
I’m not anti ESPN, and I actually do have this godaddy bowl on. That’s what this is now - the bowl system is now a method to provide ESPN a bunch of programming that’s better than whatever else they’d have on, probably regular season college basketball.
College Football New Years Day bowls was more of an event back in the day.
Yipee!!!
How'd you do in the BCS Basketball office pool? Woohoo 1 for 1, I win...with half of the other people in the pool!!!
The conferences are all screwed up now. It wouldn’t be as good as the old days. If the conferences could be moved back the way they were.
And no college football after Jan 1.
One simple rule - no college football after Jan 1 - would solve most of my problems with the current system.
