While in Pennsylvania for the Holidays, I came into possession of what was described to me as a "Russian Soldier's Cross." It appears to be made of brass and has writing on it in Cyrillic, in either Russian or possibly Old Church Slavonic. While I can guess at some of the inscriptions on the front, I have no idea what the writing on the back is.
I found a very similar object here, although it's apparent the inscription on the obverse is somewhat different.
The cross is rather small, and the photos below were taken on 1/4" ruled graph paper for scale.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Have you tried to find a cryllic translator through google? or something?
This is an easy one.
It says “If you can read this, you’re too close.”
You’re welcome.
Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance :-)
It says MADE IN CHINA....
Sorry..:>)
My 2 yr old girl watched it on DVD 3 times this weekend, she was glued to the set, insisted it be put on pause for a bathroom break....
Now that’s funny!

Let God arise and let His enemies be scattered ! Let those who hate Him flee from before His face ! As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish. As wax melts before the fire, so let sinners perish before the face of those who love God and sign themselves with the Sign of the Cross and say joyfully : Rejoice! Most precious in Life - creating Cross of the Lord, which chases demons away through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ who was nailed for you, descended into hell and having trampled down the power of the devil, gave to us His precious Cross for the routing of all enemies. Help me forever, most precious in life - creating Cross of the Lord , with the Holy Lady Virgin Theotokos and all the Saints. Amen .
Any ideas what this says?
LOL...thanks for the first truly helpful reply on this thread. I did find that translation (at the link I cited in my post). It just seemed there was a lot more text on the back of mine than on images of the soldier’s cross I/you found.
That does not appear to be Cyrillic. I believe that it is written in Greek.
It says “ May the Schwartz be With You”

This is not the modern spelling of the words. It could be Old Church Slavonic. On the front of this one, the top has something to do with "glory." The middle refers to "Jesus, Son of God". And the bottom may have something to do with "peace" or the "world". No clue about the back of this one. That is probably Church Slavonic, not modern Russian. Take it to a Russian Orthodox priest.
You need to find a university which has experts in Old Church Slavonic. Try doing a Google search. I purchased a Russian Icon crucifix surrounded by numerous small works of art along with a St. Andrew’s cross on the back side. OCS writing was everywhere. As I recall, I found a couple of professors at an East Coast University, possibly UNC but I can’t be sure. I wrote to them to ask their assistance and sent them digital images of the icon which they translated for me.
The particular cross being discussed has on the front:
King of
Glory
|
Jesus | Christ
Son of | God
|
|
|
N N K O*
|
|
(* which may be Greek for "Victor")
We shouldn’t have sold Alaska, Sarah would have been ours!
