Yes, DADT was the best way to handle this issue.
All we are asking is that they not flaunt their sexual preference - accosting fellow soldiers, making them uncomfortable etc. which DADT kept from happening.
If straights object now to being hit on, molested etc. they will be charged with hate crimes etc.
The real goal has to be the destruction of the military - the gay voting block is just too small to achieve the repeal of DADT by itself.

As much as I wanted McCain to be stronger in the 2008 campaign, I have been happy with his stands of late. Hopefully the Tea Party has had an influence on him. Now, if only his daughter would shut up.

I have a question. What was the policy about gays in the military BEFORE Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell? I believe it was that gays were not permitted in the military at all. Wouldn’t repealing DADT merely take the law back to what it was before?

I guess we will have co-ed barracks, toilets and showers now. No need to separate. Same as having to sleep, shower and use the toilet with a gay person.
Even if there are troops who respond to some survey that they are “okay” with gays in the military, the sad fact is that most people, including these troops, really do not have the faintest clue what it means to have a bunch of gays bringing their “culture” into an organization/institution.
