A child nutrition bill on its way to President Barack Obama — and championed by the first lady — gives the government power to limit school bake sales and other fundraisers that health advocates say sometimes replace wholesome meals in the lunchroom.
Republicans, notably Sarah Palin, and public school organizations decry the bill as an unnecessary intrusion on a common practice often used to raise money.
"This could be a real train wreck for school districts," Lucy Gettman of the National School Boards Association said Friday, a day after the House cleared the bill. "The federal government should not be in the business of regulating this kind of activity at the local level."
The legislation, part of first lady Michelle Obama's campaign to stem childhood obesity, provides more meals at school for needy kids, including dinner, and directs the Agriculture Department to write guidelines to make those meals healthier. The legislation would apply to all foods sold in schools during regular class hours, including in the cafeteria line, vending machines and at fundraisers.

And to add to your list...all children must feed from the public schools cafeteria trough and no food from home in any form at any time is permitted. And all after hours family activities held at a public school must subcontract the food for said activities through the public school food services in order for the public school district to remain eligible for their federal breakfast/lunch (and now dinner) food monies

Seriously. Some kids use the money they raise from bake sales & candy sales, etc., for trips to DC. You’d think these efforts would be appreciated.
Maybe they can sell edamame fries. /ridicule.
I just have to go make killer brownies and oh can’t forget those once a year chocolate crinkle powered sugar covered cookies I make at Christmas and oh yeah..the other ones I make are chocolate cookies with frosting...better get the scouts out of the ingredients....all the banana bread is gone..kids took it when they left today.

I always made the chocolate crinkle cookies when I was young; they were my dad’s favorite. yesterday I made peanut butter w/ melted chocolate on top. Yum!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been having a huge craving for buckeyes (those peanut butter balls dunked in chocolate) and fudge. Crinkle cookies are sooo good. You can even warm them up in the microwave.
I’m going to be throwing scoff-law, guerilla bake sales. Or I’ll skulk with the smoking kids just off school property with my cupcakes. This will not stand!!!!

Sounds great to me. I don’t even need a special day for crinkle cookies. Making them makes the day special!
