Call Now to Stop S. 510
Citizens' Council for Health Freedom ^ | 12-6-10 | Twila Brase

Posted on 12/07/2010 7:52:31 AM PST by WOBBLY BOB

There may soon be a stealth attempt to attach the stalled so-called "food safety" bill (S. 510) to a House bill in the last days of this Congress. As this 240-page bill passed in the U. S. House (73-25), U.S. Senator Tom Coburn said the bill will raise food prices, add $1.5 billion to the deficit, and add unfunded state mandates [costs]. Many news reports say S. 510 will put farming and all food production under government control -- under the guise of protecting health and safety. The word "Secretary" is found on 206 pages. The word "health" is found on 81 pages, and mentioned over 100 times in the bill. S. 510 authorizes significant federal controls over food production, including, but not limited to: Federally-established production standards for raw products if the Secretary thinks "such standards minimize the risk of serious adverse health consequences or death." (p. 41). Audits, such that if a condition "that could cause or contriute to a serious risk to the public health," is discovered, the Secretary must be notified immediately (p. 214). Surveillance to prevent the spread of diseases (p. 73). Federal access to the records of any person who "manufacturers, processes, packs, distributes, receives, hold, or imports" any article of food the Secretary "believes...will cause serious adverse health consequences or death." (p. 5)

Skirting the U.S. Constitution? Because S. 510 creates federal revenue (fees/taxes), the U.S. Constitution requires the bill to originate from the U.S. House , not the U.S. Senate (it should have an H.R., not a S. before the bill number). Because S. 510 came to the House from the Senate, House liberals are trying to find a "must have" House bill to attach the Senate's language. They would then send back to the Senate for final passage and President Obama's signature.

ACT NOW. Tell your representative in Congress NOT to fix the S. 510. Ask them to Kill the Bill! Find contact info here. Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121.

Already e-mailed John Kline (R-MN).
“This bill does not need to be fixed, it needs to be shot down”.
I have some leftie friends in Minneapolis that are also against this bill. Unfortunately Keith Ellison is their rep.

Marxism is the antithesis of capitalism, which is defined as “an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and distribution of goods, characterized by a free competitive market and motivation by profit.” Marxism is the system of socialism of which the dominant feature is public ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange.

My sentiments exactly. This pisses me off even more then messing with the 2nd Amendment, which I didn’t know was possible. I come from a long line of ranchers and farmers. My grandmother had the green thumb thing going on and she wrote a column on gardening for the local paper in Hamilton, TX. Some of my earliest memories are picking fresh veggies from her garden. I inherited the love of gardening from her. Wish I’d gotten the green thumb, too...but I digress.

Growing food is an inherent right. It didn’t need it’s own amendment in the Bill of Rights because it was UNDERSTOOD. To have these clowns in congress mess around with that right is beyond evil. I have talked to many, many people about this bill. Most of them do not believe it is happening. The response I get is “they wouldn’t do that!”. OMG! They are doing it right now!! Everyone has been so focused on the groping by the TSA that they haven’t noticed Congress raping us.

They can have my home grown tomatoes when they pry them - and my gun - from my cold dead fingers.

......ok. I feel better now. I’m going to start collecting heirloom seeds and vacuum sealing them for long term storage. When seeds are outlawed, only outlaws will have seeds.

Writing to my senators will just get me the answer that I usually get, “I believe that this is right for the American people.” I am a Californian with Boxer and Feinstein who are more than willing to kill the freedoms of this country.

I think it’s worse than that. I think they actually revel in passing things BECAUSE we’re overwhelmingly opposed, since they know we’re all just racistsexisthomophobicxenophobic thugs-our very opposition PROVES to them the rightness of passing _______ (insert name /number of offensive legislation).

>>Growing food is an inherent right.

My Great Grandmother (the one in the middle below) survived starvation in the Russian Revolution because her father loaded his blacksmith tools into a wheelbarrow, and his family into a cattle boat headed for the Statue of Liberty.

As you can see in their eyes, defying the Bolsheviks is something of a family tradition - both in the "Old Country", and the new one.

I was lucky enough to know her as she lived into her 90's, and in her own house - where she always had a Victory Garden and made sure that, by her example, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren learned the necessity and benefits of self-sufficiency.

Yesterday, the U.S. House attached the Senate’s so-called “Food Safety” language from the S. 510 bill to HR 3082, the Continuing Resolution (CR), which is an administrative bill that funds government to keep it from shutting down.

The vote to attach it was 212-205 with no Republicans voting for the bill.

If HR 3082 becomes law, 4,000 new FDA agents will be unleashed to interfere in farming and food production, according to Natural Solutions Foundation. Liberals made this last minute procedural move because the bill had been ruled unconstitutional. In short, no bill with tax implications or fees can originate in the Senate. It must come FROM the House and be sent TO the Senate. By attaching it to a House bill yesterday, liberals bypassed the constitutional problem.

H.R. 3082 (with S. 510 attached) is now going to the U.S. Senate—where many Senators are up for re-election in 2012.
