Food “Safety” Modernization Act! (Last chance - scheduled for vote 7pm today)
FreedomWorks ^ | Nov 22, 2010 | Julie Borowski

Posted on 11/29/2010 8:30:39 AM PST by DelaWhere

Beck and others are telling you - TODAY at 7pm Senate is scheduled to vote.

If passed, the misnamed Food Safety and Modernization Act would authorize the FDA to tell farmers how to grow their crops. Federal bureaucrats who likely know little to nothing about farming will set the guidelines on appropriate temperatures, what soil to use, how much water to use and what animals are allowed to be on certain fields.

S. 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act, gives broad powers to the FDA to regulate small farms and gardens.

As a constituent, I urge you to vote NO on S. 510, a massive overreach of government power with no discernible increase in the safety of our food supply.

S. 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act, gives broad powers to the FDA to regulate small farms and gardens. This places costly burdens to adhere to new rules and increased taxes on small-scale entrepreneurs at a time when we can least afford it.

Despite the fact that recent food scares have not been linked to this small corner of agriculture, S. 510 threatens to put them out of business. In reality, it has been overlapping and inconsistent oversight that have let problems slip by. S. 510 only brings additional waste to an already bloated system.

It also comes with a hefty price tag of $1.4 billion between 2011 and 2015 and 17,000 new bureaucrats to oversee these new powers.

On November 2nd voters around the country send a resound No to more government and more spending. This flies in the face of that message. I urge you to vote NO on S. 510.

Horay for Glenn Beck. He is the only conservative bringing up this important topic.

Does anyone have a list of the senators that are likely to vote yes or no on this bill? We need to emphasize to those will plan to vote for this that the voters do not want it.

Thanks for posting. I called five friends today about the bill but had no idea what time exactly it would be voted on. I’m glad we still have some time....

This is EXACTLY what Chairman Mao did to Chinese agriculture in the 1960s... put farmers at the mercy of abstract bureaucratic rules.

The result was MASS STARVATION.

F* Obama.

F* the Democrats.

F* the RINOs.

Our two Georgia RHINO’s Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson are voting for S.510. We have had no luck in changing their minds. Please feel to free to call them up and give them a piece of your mind.
Saxby Chamblis: 202-224-3521
Johnny Isakson: 202224-3643

This is what I just sent to my Senators:

Dear Senator xxxx:

This regards SB 510. Cap and tax and the EPA are already doing their level best to put farmers out of business which will create a food crisis. Now Congress is considering a bill which would limit individual families from growing their own gardens to feed their families without bureaucratic nightmares and warrantless searches. We just had an election where the public signaled to Washington DC that we are sick and tired of the way America is being “fundamentally changed”. We are sick of unaccountable, unconstitutional “czars” poking their noses into every crevice of our lives and bodies. We want the Constitution back and we want to go back to being the “land of the free and the home of the brave.”

I am asking you to amend SB 510 to exclude everything except the prohibition on earmarks. I am asking you to add a measure that would not only limit earmarks from being lumped into appropriations bills but would limit unrelated measures from being lumped into other bills. Americans are sick of the political games that DC uses to crap on us rather than serving us. We don’t want our officials only being offered bills that combine critical meat with crap. Make the meat stand on its own, and make the crap stand on its own. American prosperity is being held hostage to these political games and we WILL NOT TOLERATE IT!!!

If those amendments are not made to SB 510 then I urge you, on my behalf, to vote “HELL NO!!” And then I kindly ask you to write back to me and tell me the name of the person responsible for lumping the earmark prohibition into a tyrannical bill to prevent me from growing my own food. I would like that person’s name because I would like to get them fired and I would like to set the record straight for the public when the crooked political ads come out saying that you voted to keep earmarks.

VERY sincerely,

(my name and contact info)

It’s pure Communism. When Stalin was in power, farmers who had learned how to farm well, sometimes from generations of farmers, were FORCED to plant their crops on certain days as set up by the Commie regime. If their fields were flooded and impossible to plant, they had to get permission to wait from their local Commie commission, which in turn had to send the request on to the next highest commission, and so forth for several higher commissions. By the time, the paper work was done and returned to the farmer, it was too late to plow.

By the same token, reaping the crop was either done before it was ripe, or too late to save it.

Thirty million Russians starved to death.

If they pass this, de-fund the USDA in Jan.

We've got the hammer, come January, and we have to use it.

Has S510 changed from when it was originally written? I read this bill when it first came out and found nothing of what you are posting in the bill. Bills change, sometimes a lot is this the case here?
