Former President Bill Clintons chief of staff John Podesta, now the head of the Center for American Progress, called on President Obama to push forward with his agenda using federal agencies and executive branch power Tuesday, even though Democrats were dealt a blow in the recent midterm elections. Podesta said the American people want the president to move forward with his agenda.
I think most of the conversation since the election has been about how President Obama adjusts to the new situation on Capitol Hill, Podesta said. While thats an important conversation, it simply ignores the presidents ability to use all levels of his power and authority to move the country forward.
Citing his experience in Clintons White House after the GOP House takeover of 1994, Podesta said Obamas administration can and should take the specific measures detailed in a report released by the Center for American Progress, utilizing all the tools at its disposal to circumvent Congress in a way to keep his agenda moving forward.
One of the best ways for the Obama administration to achieve results of that nature, in the short term, is through substantial executive authority to make and implement policy, Podesta said. As noted in the Constitution and the laws of the United States give the president the ability and the responsibility to act as the chief executive using authorities granted to all presidents such as executive orders, rule-makings, agency management and public-private partnerships.

The Clintons vs. Obama may join the list of History’s most infamous feuds. We can only hope for no collateral damage.

“Does this empower the executive branch even more?”
Yep - which is why Inhofe (who is further from being a RINO than Reagan was) supported them. But it still doesn’t matter, and he even gets it now, for we can thank Senator McCain and ESPECIALLY Senator Stevens for distorting what earmarks are...to the point of making them more poisonous than trying to fix SocSecurity.
If the Congress spends the next two years knocking down any and all of Obama’s Executive Orders, I would be happy with that Congress.
Not enough patriots among the ranks of Congress to get this done I'm afraid.
As Rocky would say,”Go for it!”
I was just reading an interesting historical account of Salvador Allende the other day...and power trips, all on behalf of “The People” of course.
According to his oath of office, it is not the President’s job to “move the country forward”, John.
This little Commie is another one that needs to go. He and Leon Panetta are peas in a pod, only Leon appears less radical.
The bad news is that Panetta is heading the CIA.
Isn’t Podesta a Clinton man?
I suspect the Clinton’s want him to push harder and take himself out of the 2012 election.
Wouldn’t it be delicious for Bill to have another impeached president running around the country?
He could once again say”they all do it so it’s okay to be impeached”.
Push the issue. Escalate it to a Constitutional Crisis.
Form committees and groups in all towns, cities and states, under the existing conservative and Tea Party structures. Form a National 10th Ammendment Contact Committee between the GOP Governors of friendly, resistant states, and coordinate their various national guards and information flows.
If the elite overlords in D.C. are going to "bring it" through unconstitutional Executive Orders and Administrative Legislation by the Executive Branch, which I figured they would in the closing two months of 2010, now is about their only chance. If they "bring it", the People had better be ready also to "bring it".
Man, are they overplaying their hands...or at least floating trial balloons.
Bovine Scatology!
Podesta said the American people want the president to move forward with his agenda.
This Podesta guy must be smoking the same stuff Slick Willie was smoking. Where does he get the FU idea that
the American people want Hussein Obama to do anything?
Did not he understand the ass kicking the RATS got a few weeks ago?
Not immediately. That would play into Obama's hands. Aided by the state-controlled media, he would play it just the way Clinton played Gingrich's "government shut-down."
It has to be allowed to bite, or at least to stay in force long enough so that it's a looming cost hit for everyone in America. Conservative media (talk radio and the internet) has to be allowed time to explain what will happen when cap and tax takes effect. The debate has to play out. Only then can the power of the purse be brought to bear.
Let's not make the same mistakes we made in 1994 and 1995.
The American people want leaders and repealers, NOT rulers and regulators.
Indeed.

Which is why we voted for Republicans in greater numbers than at any time since 1946. Because a Republican landslide is a mandate for Democrats! It all makes sense.
Podesta, another ‘Klintonista’ trying to ensure 0Bozo is a one-term wonder and making room for the Klintons in the White House.
Podesta is a SOROS man - Center for American Progress is a Soros front-group.
Great strategy, Podesta. How’s that “ignore the will of the people” thing workin’ out for ya so far?
If this is the caliber of advisors Obamateur has around him, it’s no wonder he’s falling faster than pigeon poop.
Simple fix to excess executive action. Cut off funds to whatever agency is inplementing his dictatorial edicts.
It could turn out to be a good thing as various agencies cease to exist. Provided the house republicans have the backbone to carry through.
“Maybe this is a devious Clinton plan to complete Obamas destruction before 2012.”
