Former President Bill Clinton’s chief of staff John Podesta, now the head of the Center for American Progress, called on President Obama to push forward with his agenda using federal agencies and executive branch power Tuesday, even though Democrats were dealt a blow in the recent midterm elections. Podesta said the American people want the president to move forward with his agenda.
“I think most of the conversation since the election has been about how President Obama adjusts to the new situation on Capitol Hill,” Podesta said. “While that’s an important conversation, it simply ignores the president’s ability to use all levels of his power and authority to move the country forward.”
Citing his experience in Clinton’s White House after the GOP House takeover of 1994, Podesta said Obama’s administration “can and should take” the specific measures detailed in a report released by the Center for American Progress, utilizing all the tools at its disposal to circumvent Congress in a way to keep his agenda moving forward.
“One of the best ways for the Obama administration to achieve results of that nature, in the short term, is through substantial executive authority to make and implement policy,” Podesta said. “As noted in the Constitution and the laws of the United States give the president the ability and the responsibility to act as the chief executive using authorities granted to all presidents such as executive orders, rule-makings, agency management and public-private partnerships.”

This is why I’m confused about the earmarks. Does this empower the executive branch even more? I totally like the idea of no earmarks but worry about that part.

Cut funds to all the agencies that he wants to begin using for these policies. As an example, if obama wants to install a cap and tax through EPA regulation, then cut the EPA’s budget by 30% immediately. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, zero!
To answer your question, no. Congress holds the checkbook and with a new Sherrif in town come January, I expect them to choke off his ability to do so because the blank checks of the 111th congress will be gone. He can order all he wants to but Congress can starve anything he does by defunding any attempts. There is also a means of killing EO’s in the Congress as well. I would suspect that shortly after the swearing in ceremony’s that a few party flippers will be happening. Faced with a Congress willing to take on Obama in the public arena, you will even see enough Democrats willing to go along on a veto over ride or at least threaten to do so. Several of them came very close to losing their seats as well.
On the topic at large, geez, whoda thunk it that this would be coming from Podesta?/sarc Wasn’t it right before and after the election that one of Soro’s groups started making these noises?
Maybe this is a devious Clinton plan to complete Obama’s destruction before 2012.
Podesta is acting out of school and out of power. He should have made this pronouncement directly to the President and act without fanfare and on the QT.

we have to assume that anything Podesta says is coming directly from Soros. He wants there to be a constitutional crisis so people lose faith in the system.
If Obama starts doing this, there should be an uprising from both sides of the aisle and impeachment proceedings.
Podesta’s Center for American Progress is funded by George Soros. He wants BO’s Communist agenda to go forward, in spite of the American people rejecting it, because that will be the end of the USA.
The Congress needs to start impeachment proceedings the minute the first executive orders are put on the table. The Executive Branch is not supposed to make laws for the country, period.
No need for confusion on earmarks. They are a symbol of what’s wrong about Washington and our political corruption. In an of themselves the earmark like any other tool can be good or bad— but they have been abused. and the only way to cure the abuse is to seek promise to end earmarks. What bothers me is it seems the political game that this position may be a compromise that will bite us in the behind-for what will they NOT hear us on down the road when the Republicans have the House?I like what Alan West said about his going to Washington-to fix what is broken -then come home.

And your reply is EXACTLY what I hope those we sent to congress will adhere to.But I worry that the environment in Washington D.C. is such that like this so called “ethics” thing with good time Charlie.I fear Congress will agree that Obummer is not really qualified to be President and that they have much to disagree about but will lack the political will and the Moral character to do the right thing and remove the
contaminated material to the burn pit.
