Mysterious missile launch most likely US Air flight 808

Network news and the internet were abuzz with the report and video by Los Angeles CBS affiliate KCBS of a reported missile launch late Monday afternoon -- around 5 PM. Both the Air Force and the Navy denied they had any missiles launches at the time. According to CBS News the Defense Department remains baffled.

"Nobody within the Department of Defense that we've reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from," Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan said. "So far, we've come up empty with any explanation."

And they go on:

"The FAA told CBS News that they ran radar replays of a large area west of Los Angeles based on media reports of the location of a possible missile launch, but they did not reveal any fast moving unidentified targets in that area. The FAA also did not receive any reports of any unusual sightings from pilots in the area."

"The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, issued a statement jointly with the U.S. Northern Command, or NORTHCOM, saying that the contrail was not the result of a foreign military launching a missile. It provided no further details."

A search for flights that could have left a contrail led me to US Air’s flight 808 from Honolulu to Phoenix. The flight took off from Honolulu at 10:06 AM HST, passed over Catalina Island at 5:03 PM PST....

...Jon Ostrower said via twitter that he was 100% convinced it was a jet.

If that's really what he said, then Jon Ostrower is a moron.

Has anyone tracked where it might have ended up?

I believe radar has determined the ‘missile’ landed safely in Phoenix.

and straight up

With a corkscrew contrail near the ground. Missile

It is truly unbelievable how stupid and easily led so many people are. They sure must be in some kind of thick cloud of a daze.

This is insane.

A missile? Seriously? FR, a place I’ve learned to come for clarity of thought and common sense in these days when such is so rare, and we have so many believing in a conspiracy theory to protect misileering pirates?

It is so, so very clear when you look at the various vid pieces of this thing that it is a conventional aircraft traveling eastbound over the coast..........not a phantom missile by the ChiCom Overlords.

-the contrail fades in and out, even disappears at times, just as an airline passing through different altitudes and aerial conditions

-the source of the contrail is coming toward the camera as evidenced by the clear glint of sunlight off of the aircraft’s underside...that wouldn’t be so clear of something headed west where this would have been obscured by the trail

So, this is a Chinese SLBM? Where did it go? The seaways and airways are crowded with commercial traffic communicating over very public airwaves. Commercial pilots over a very busy SoCal would be sure to notice A BALLISTIC MISSILE blowing a whole through traffic lanes right off of the coast and yet no alarm was sounded.

Good God, people, get a flippin’ grip. This isn’t political or about Obama or the Chinese or the Zeta Reticulans..........it’s a freakin’ airplane and it’s not hard to see.

I do think more and more that what the helicopter saw was the contrail from US Airways Flight 808 from Honolulu to Phoenix.

I cite these reasons:

1) If it WAS a missile launch, how come there were no reports of the USAF Defense Support Program satellite or its Russian equivalent tracking the IR plume of the rocket from sea level up?

2) Wouldn't we see the a very strong contrail of a Trident II (D-5) rocket from the ground up?

3) Wouldn't the contrail from the rocket move REALLY fast? On most modern SLBM's, by the time the rocket reaches 100,000 feet it would be travelling at over Mach 3. As such, the contrail moved slowly, which rules out a modern long-range ballistic missile or even the RIM-161 Standard Missile-3 space interceptor missile.

4) There are no rocket launch facilities on the Channel Islands, so that rules out the use of sounding rockets, especially since sounding rocket launch facilities are all located inside Vandenberg AFB grounds.

5) There are no reports of any ships capable of launching the RIM-161 SM-3 missile in the supposed launch area, so that rules out a launch of such a missile.

6) I have my serious doubts that a Russian or Chinese SSBN submarine would operate so close to the USA. Standard operating policy for Russian SSBN's is to operate in Arctic waters to take advantage of the protection of the Arctic ice pack, and the Chinese Type 094 SSBN would operate close to the Chinese coast, since its primary targets would industrial, military and urban centers along the US West Coast from Bellingham, WA all the way to San Diego.

Sure it was probably USA 808. And it was a fuel pump that brought down TWA 800.

They also reran the radar info from the time period involved and there were NO unidentified objects.

The video shows a contrail from a plane.

My money is still on a “big ole jet airliner” contrail.

An ICBM is not going to be spin stabilized, so why would it leave a corkscrew contrail?

Airliners on the other hand, often leave a spiraling contrail, particularly the 747.

Absolutely have to agree. Optical illusions, especially in two dimensions on video, happen. The real “culprits” in all this are the hyper active / sub room temperature IQ’s of the television reporters who went to a very old man who confirmed that it looked like a missile launch from an “underwater submarine” (as opposed to all the other kinds). Reason? Demonstrate that we have the know how to launch missiles from a sub. Who knew?

Likely not. Right out of the of the disinfo. playbook. If the U.S. government can't or refuses to explain it. It is time to BS it.

Pure propaganda. No way that was an airplane.

I posted yesterday that, by Friday, they will claim it was nothing more than an errant weather balloon. Someone else reponded to my post: Swamp gas.

No way in the world that is a passenger jet. There have been thousands upon thousands of passenger jets flying their customary routes for many years. Besides, this was far too fast for a passenger jet and, as it reached the apogee of its flight, the combustion was clearly visible, something you don't see in a passenger jet. I've seen many rocket launches and even more jet contrails. This was the former, not the latter.

I'll tell you this, if Los Angeles or Chicago gets nuked by such a missile, the story from the Pentagon will be that it was a small asteroid impact, that they had only seen it hours before and had no time to order an evacuation, and, hey, people have been warning about this danger for years and now it's happened. So sad.
