DioGuardi Beating Gillibrand According to new Poll

In a deep blue state, serious trouble could be brewing for Democrats in New York. A new poll released this weekend now shows that not only has Republican Carl Paladino gained on Democrat gubernatorial front-runner Andrew Cuomo, but that senatorial challenger Republican Joe DioGuardi is now in front of Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand.

According to the poll, conducted by the Rochester Business Journal, DioGuardi has passed the coveted 50% mark, garnering 51% of the vote to Gillibrand's 46%:

"Republican Joseph DioGuardi edged Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, 51 percent to 46 percent. Respondents favored Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer over Republican Jay Townsend."

Long written off as a Republican loss, this poll shows that there might be hope for a GOP victory in the New York Senate and Governor race after all. A victory for DioGuardi could potentially push Republicans into the majority in the United States Senate.

If DioGuardi wins in New York, I think Republicans will definitely take the Senate

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but this “poll” seems to have been of the internet variety open to whatever respondents are interested, and doesn’t say much about anything other than the readers of the Rochester Business Journal.

At least it does ask party affiliation, but I can’t see the NY pubs turning out half again as many voters as the Dems.

From the RBJ site:

Republican: 37%
Non-affiliated: 32%
Democrat: 25%
Other: 5%

The only poll that matters is the one taken today. If it still holds tomorrow, THEN I’ll celebrate.

So if the Pubs have 75% turnout and the Dems 25% turnout then the ratio used in this poll will reflect the electorate. (Don’t know how the independents factor in.)

The only way we win NY is of the dems figure the races are a shoe-in for the Dems and stay home. Its not impossible. But I would eat my hat if it happens.

For the Dems. If this poll’s internals are accurate in terms of preference by party affiliation, the only Republican path to victory at the moment would seem to involve reducing the NYC turnout to zero—if NYC is nuked this morning then the Pubs will probably win this race. A win would be nice, but I don’t want a win quite that badly.

Sorry, but I gotta calls them as I sees them. I know I’ve done all I can to ensure the ‘Rats get their spanking but GOOD, but New York is like a bunch of abused spouses when it comes to voting for Democrats. They’re all bloody and bruised and when asked why they keep voting for ‘Rats, they used the battered spouse excuse, “BUT HE LOVES ME!!!”
