NYC: Skaters Flash Mob
Facebook ^ | 10/16/10 | dbcjr

Pretty outrageous: a skater flash mob. Probably 200 skate boarders zipped past Macy's 5th Ave stopping traffic. Sort of a skate board parade or something. Horns were blasting. Drivers upset. Others taking photos and laughing.

The context: People contained in cubicles within office cubes stacked 100 stories high, in cars jammed in a frozen river of traffic.

The Protagonist: a mob of skaters slicing freely thru the stagnant ice, screaming gleefully, some with bare chests.

The Antagonists: Jammed up drivers yelling and honking.

The Chorus: Onlookers infected by the liberated joy, cheering them on, and capturing the moment on electronic devices with which to relive the freedom once returned to their cubes.

And traffic resumed.

I don’t really see a mob. Nice try, though.

We were in Times Square when they skateboarded down Broadway, it was so cool, they were having a great time and everyone (except the owner of the white Mercedes who pulled out into the line of skateboarders got rammmed by a few of them!!)
If I was young enough I would have done it too!

From what I can see, there wasn’t really a “there” there.

Here's a different kind pf flash mob in NYC.

Cab Swarm: Islamic Supremacism in New York City, Prayer in the Streets

From Atlas Shrugs website

Recently New York City Atlas readers have written to complain of a relatively new phenomenon, a cab swarm on Friday afternoons followed by street prayers, etc. I suspect the reason for this is there may be a plan afoot to build a mega mosque in this particular area.

Yes, everyone has religious liberty, but the street praying is territtorial and out of line. How disruptive to this quiet residential area of Manhattan. Mayor Gloomberg is banning smoking from Central Park and other public places but this is OK?

There was no activity at the site of the Ground Zero mega mosque either. They closed surrounding mosques and had worshippers come in from out of the area. Go down to the Ground Zero mosque location on Friday afternoon and check out all the out-of-state plates.

We have seen this activity grow to intolerable proportions in Paris. This reader writes from polite and lovely Riverside Drive and 72nd Street. Here is what Atlas reader Cos wrote:

As recently as one year ago there was typically zero activity at this location on Friday afternoons.

Below are photos (taken today) of what is now the norm. I counted over 250 taxicabs and 30 pedicabs choking the streets around the "Cultural Center". There was not a single squad car, or patrolman on foot, horse or bike anywhere to be seen in the area.

Comments

UPDATE: Reader Davida is spot on:

My husband drives a limo in NYC. If he pulls up to a location to pick up his client and sits there for more than thirty seconds he gets slapped with a $105.00 parking ticket. F**k, I'm gonna tell him to take a prayer rug with him, whip it out, take off his shoes and stick his butt in the air, the he can wait as long as he wants to and no more tickets. Seems as if you are muslim, you can get away with murder. Oh, that's right, they already do.

UPDATE: Special rights for special classes This is submission to Islamic supremacism.

Okay, I’ll bite. I see six, maybe seven skater boarders, all pretty young and goofy looking, a black man and a white woman on the right, and some people sitting at a sidewalk cafe.

That’s it. There might, just might be some more skaters in the far distance, but they aren’t visible in the photo.

So how about YOU tell me what I’m missing?

Things weren't so great walking from 5th Ave to 6th along 14th Street about an hour ago.
