Whenever my now-living-in-flyover-country sisters come to visit a good Queens or LI bakery is always on the schedule. Sometimes it's Jewish, sometimes Italian but until they recently closed it was almost always Bauer's on Dry Harbor Rd. in Middle Village. My grandparents lived around the corner starting in the 30s and we had their goods right up to their closing a year ago.
Second choice was Lord's in Massapequa, made famous in the marble-rye episode of Seinfeld.

My dad had a business on Jeweler’s row. His customers mostly thought he was Jewish like them; this was good for business.
Our office building’s coffee shop, which had the “L” right outside its windows, had all the usual dishes—noodle kugel, borscht, lachs und bagels, kreplach....that’s how I learnt about jewish food.
I went back in there forty years later. Substantial remodeling, but still the same fare.

You leave lots of openings, maybe that is your intention.

What you are probably missing in the healthier Campbells soups is the MSG (flavor enhancer) that they took out. Some of their other varieties probably still have it. I stopped buying Campbells years ago because it had MSG in it.

I learned about Jewish food in Boston while broke and in school. I think the restaurateurs felt sorry for me and brought me extra. That or thought I was a doofus with my Southern accent. Either way, the food was great!

Whenever I’m down with something I CRAVE Campbell’s Traditional Chicken Soup. Nothing else will do. For the same reason as you.
