Today, a group called the 10.10 project came out with a pro-environmental video which has gathered a LOT of negative publicity. The group has since issued the canonical retrenchment-couched-as-an-apology "to those who really deserve this, but who are clueless enough to have admitted their guilt by being offended, we are sorry you're stupid". But, uncharacteristically, the group has ONLY pulled the video from its own website, and is making no effort to scrub it from the web at large. (Which is probably a good thing, as the video has gone viral within twelve hours).
What is the video? You can see it here.
The video is a series of short vignettes -- one with a daffy liberal teacher in front of elementary-aged children; another in an office; another with a soccer team; and the last in a radio studio -- of a leader explaining the need to curtail our carbon footprint, and asking for people willing to reduce said footprint by 10%. Invariably, there are a couple of holdouts, to whom the speaker says, "Fine, No Pressure"...just before pressing a red button which blows up the naysayers and splattering blood and gore all over the rest of the assembled group.
Now, this is bad enough, even *if* you accept the after-the-fact coverup explanation that this was meant to be humorous through exaggeration, and to engage in shock value in order to promote discussion. ("Any publicity is good publicity.")
But even given that, weren't these dunderheads thinking?
1) They led off by blowing up children. You DON'T blow up children, ever. You can abort them, even partial-birth abort them, even leave living babies born after attempted abortion to die alone in a supply closet (thanks, Obama!) or lobby to have retarded children up to the age of a year or so killed (thanks, Prof. Peter Singer of Princeton University!)
But you *can't* just blow them up.
2) Well, wait a minute. I know of one group who regularly blows up children.
Jihadists.
3) And 10:10 adds up to the same number as 9:11. You know, when thousands of innocents died at the hand of M_slim fanatics.
So my proposal is this: can someone dub over this video (like the now-stale Hitler-in-the-bunker scene from The Downfall) and make it read "the 9-11 project"? And have the lead character's voice and/or subtitles change, now urging those in the audience to convert to Islam?
And remember...
NO PRESSURE.
The Enviro-wacko crowd is truly sick.
From what I read this was a seriously produced video with a cast of more than 90 and a professional director and the works. I heard the budget was something like $400,000.
This was no little humor thing they threw together, this was supposed to be HUGE. They put a massive amount of effort into this creature. They were proud of this.
They showed us their true colors with this one.
Richard Curtis the director of “Four weddings and a funeral” and “Notting Hill”, no less.
The person behind this thing is Franny Armstrong (you'll find her on wikipedia) - she's a well-known filmmaker and she says she got some hi-profile people behind the movie. We'll be watching her and her organizations, and their links and offshoots ;P
However: there is one thing all of us can do. She seems to be something of a shakedown-artist, and you'll find companies lining up to support the 1010global initiative. Boycott would be extremely cool.
and....Black Adder
Yes, they were proud of it and offered one of those "Sorry if we offended...." apologies.
Today we put up a mini-movie about 10:10 and climate change called 'No Pressure.
With climate change becoming increasingly threatening, and decreasingly talked about in the media, we wanted to find a way to bring this critical issue back into the headlines whilst making people laugh. We were therefore delighted when Britain's leading comedy writer, Richard Curtis - writer of Blackadder, Four Weddings, Notting Hill and many others agreed to write a short film for the 10:10 campaign. Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didn't and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended.
As a result of these concerns we've taken it off our website. We won't be making any attempt to censor or remove other versions currently in circulation on the internet.
We'd like to thank the 50+ film professionals and 40+ actors and extras and who gave their time and equipment to the film for free. We greatly value your contributions and the tremendous enthusiasm and professionalism you brought to the project.
At 10:10 we're all about trying new and creative ways of getting people to take action on climate change. Unfortunately in this instance we missed the mark. Oh well, we live and learn.
Onwards and upwards,
Franny, Lizzie, Eugenie and the whole 10:10 team
Great minds think alike, and so do ours ;-)
Cheers!
Cheers!
Thanks for the ping!
Oh dear, you are correct. I never thought Baldrick was a self-portrayal of the director!
This movie was just one of those "cunning plans" that Baldrick excels in.
Thanks grey_whiskers.

Thanks, gw. What disgusting creatures they are.
. . . . to a you-won't-believe-it article (They led off by blowing up children), and # 17.
As one of the comments mentioned, "This is the kind of extremist, fascistic, totalitarian sh** that we are up against. The powers that be are using 'climate change' to control us."
Thanks, grey_whiskers.
I thought the worst part was the classroom scene where the teacher spoke the King’s English as poorly as her students. I was half expecting her to introduce her boyfriend, Bill Sikes.
