When the Tea Party first started out, I was a enthusiastic supporter.. The Tea Party perfectly represented what my views are.. I'm a 100% fiscal conservative and I believe in small government on ALL issues. In the beginning, the Tea Party seemed to be such movement that would support candidates based on FISCAL issues. Initially, that was the case and people like Scott Brown have been elected. However, since then, it seems like the Tea Party Express and other Tea Party organizations have been hijacked by the social conservative wing of the GOP (i.e. Sarah Palin). Social issues were introduced to the movement which has turned people away who also support small government on personal/social issues and not just exclusively small government on fiscal issues. While we all (meaning Tea Party supporters/activists) agree on fiscal issues, there are a variety of views on social issues and introducing social issues to the Tea Party was not a good idea. Recent Tea Party Express endorsements have been exclusively for hardcore social conservatives who support "big government" on social issues. As I'm personally supporting small government on ALL issues (other than those mandated by the constitution - i.e. national defense and border security), I can no longer identify with the candidates who are being endorsed by the Tea Party express as people like Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell are clearly supporting a big government role in controlling peoples personal/social lifes. It would be sad if the Tea Party would continue on that path instead of supporting small government on all issues, or at least stay away from social issues Most people in this country are SICK of government control of their lifes.. Most people don't want government to control their money and their personal/social lifes. They don't want to pick and choose on what part of their lifes are controlled by the government!
Yes. Crystal Cove was a past-master at it. This one was easy.
An absolute stunner. The thesaurus must be smoking.
Let’s also rememeber that some of our worst drains on fiscal health are sirectly the result of one of those “fringe” socon issues, abortion.
Add 40 million people into the American economy, and tell me we’d have a porous border and social security and medicare in collapse. No way.
Absolutely right.
Kinda funny how he thought we should nominate a guy who was in on the congressional spending spree and opposes abortion and gay marriage, but now he wants a fiscal conservative who could care less if you kill your kid and throw her in the trash right before going out shopping for a nice wedding present to send Adam and Steve.
Um yeah, no sale.
:) Thesaurus. Dictionary. Vocabulary. Literature. I feel faint.
Crystal Cove, deeply concerned.
I appreciate and echo your support for those candidates, but see my post 118, especially the electoral map links. Social conservatives and their issues are a boon, not a drag.
Yeah, here’s the way that model works:
If you think we should ban the practice of ripping small children limb from limb and throwing them in the trash, you are a social conservative. Even if you repeatedly act to cutail government’s power and size, you don’t get described as a fiscal conservative.
If you think that we should allow people to kill their kids, you somehow are considered neutral on social issues. Oh,and you get called a “fiscal conservative” even as you participate in massive government spending and overregulation.
Why does your post remind me of the end of Time Bandits?
“Don’t touch it! It’s evil!
I believe no challenge is more important to the character of America than restoring the right to life to all human beings. President Ronald Reagan, January 1984
Today there is a wound in our national conscience. America will never be whole as long as the right to life granted by our Creator is denied to the unborn. - President Ronald Reagan, 1986 State of the Union address
Abraham Lincoln recognized that we could not survive as a free land when some men could decide that others were not fit to be free and should therefore be slaves. Likewise, we cannot survive as a free nation when some men decide that others are not fit to live and should be abandoned to abortion or infanticide. My Administration is dedicated to the preservation of America as a free land, and there is no cause more important for preserving that freedom than affirming the transcendent right to life of all human beings, the right without which no other rights have any meaning. ... Ronald Reagan, while sitting as the fortieth president of the United States, sent us this article shortly after the tenth anniversary of Roe v. Wade; we printed it with pride in our Spring, 1983 issue .....
With all due respect, the now zotted original poster was discussing social conservatives and the Tea Party, not the Republican Party. The Tea Party is, by design, limited in scope to issues regarding government spending, growth, and taxation. It was meant to, and should continue to, occupy only the area where conservatism and libertarianism overlap. Any attempt to hijack it for social causes will fracture it, and destroy the most powerful weapon against Big Government since Ronald Reagan himself.
This is what I was agreeing with.
Abortion is the horror that keeps on destroying. We are now in the third generation of legalized infanticide. With birth rate multiples we have easily exceeded 100 million fewer citizens than would be here without this obscenity. Run the numbers on 1/2 billion. This is specifically where we have lost our conpetative edge in world economies.
The Reagan coalition was fiscal, national defense and yes, social conservatives coming together.
The libs can support each other's vices, how about we support each other's virtues?
With all due respect you are nuts. The Tea Party is whatever I and my friends say it is and we say it is socially and fiscally conservative. So there.
Fair enough.
Well said!
Thanks!
Damn, Laz! That's gonna leave a mark!
