What happened to the Zot Party?

Posted on 09/27/2010 4:53:55 AM PDT by GrandSportC3

When the Tea Party first started out, I was a enthusiastic supporter.. The Tea Party perfectly represented what my views are.. I'm a 100% fiscal conservative and I believe in small government on ALL issues. In the beginning, the Tea Party seemed to be such movement that would support candidates based on FISCAL issues. Initially, that was the case and people like Scott Brown have been elected. However, since then, it seems like the Tea Party Express and other Tea Party organizations have been hijacked by the social conservative wing of the GOP (i.e. Sarah Palin). Social issues were introduced to the movement which has turned people away who also support small government on personal/social issues and not just exclusively small government on fiscal issues. While we all (meaning Tea Party supporters/activists) agree on fiscal issues, there are a variety of views on social issues and introducing social issues to the Tea Party was not a good idea. Recent Tea Party Express endorsements have been exclusively for hardcore social conservatives who support "big government" on social issues. As I'm personally supporting small government on ALL issues (other than those mandated by the constitution - i.e. national defense and border security), I can no longer identify with the candidates who are being endorsed by the Tea Party express as people like Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell are clearly supporting a big government role in controlling peoples personal/social lifes. It would be sad if the Tea Party would continue on that path instead of supporting small government on all issues, or at least stay away from social issues Most people in this country are SICK of government control of their lifes.. Most people don't want government to control their money and their personal/social lifes. They don't want to pick and choose on what part of their lifes are controlled by the government!

This sounds like a disinformation piece posted by the Democrats. The TEA Party affiliates around here are a pretty good blend of conservatives of all stripes, with neither the social or fiscal conservatives stupid enough to fight amongst themselves, thus weakening the movement. Fomenting division in the ranks is a formula for losing, and conservatives should not fall for those tactics.

The tea party is whatever people want it to be. One thing it isn’t is a prison.

Ever heard of paragraphs? No link; no 'vanity' tag?

The conservative movement needs all 3 legs of the Reagan coalition, including social conservatives.

IBTZ?

As the Tea Party grows, it attracts fringe people who are not fiscal conservatives, but social conservatives. Once you include social conservatives, then you lose the middle of the country. I am a social conservative, but the stigma of George W Bush and his RINO “compassionate conservative” mantra was known as fiscally irresponsible and socially conservative. That is a non-starter.

Plus, the media has successfully portrayed Tea Party candidates as zealots (Rand Paul) or crazy (O’Connell).

Hence, the allure of the Tea Party is fading.

And Glenn Beck did the Tea Party no favors. Rick Santelli doesn’t have the ego of Beck. Beck is a turnoff to many (that is, the conservative Keith Olbermann). My wife watches Glenn Beck like clockwork and I have to leave the room.

There is no fiscal conservatism without social conservatism. Social programs cost money. Fiscally conservative, socially liberal = $$$$$$$$$. And people are waking up.

Well, less and less Independents and moderates are leaving the Tea Party and it is becoming more and more a social conservative movement.. Social issues are losing issues for the GOP. The GOP has to run on fiscal issues to win as the Dems are weak on those. Nominating socially radicals like O’Donnell will hurt the GOP as her nomination basically handed that seat to the Marxist (Coons). While I agree that Mike Castle was a joke and neither fiscal nor socially conservative, he would’ve still better than the Marxist. Ideally, there should’ve been a 3rd option in the primaries as O’Donnell was the best thing that could’ve happened to the Dems.. This is a seat that will be lost because of the Tea Party Express’s radical social conservative choice as a nominee in a socially liberal state..

Only posts I see for you are from last Thursday. Everything else is too long ago . . . or never made . . . not on system. Tea Party is not united, there are 100’s maybe 1000’s of leaders, complete chaos . . . and we are changing the country with that chaos. Be concerned all you want. Better yet, find a group that you like and get working.

Yet another, Whaa! Why don’t you only do 100% of what I want! Whaaa! Temper tantrum from the 100%er club.

Grow up.

Nothing in life is perfect except God. Elections are won by combinations of interests groups coming together and accepting that they are not going to get only 100% of what they personally want. Only a child thinks it can get 100% of what it wants 100% of the time. Adults know that is not the case.

This perpetual pouting by the Always Bitching caucus of Freeper purists is really childish.

This is a conservative site.

You are here to foment trouble. If you don’t like it go away.

Or maybe you prefer the democrats handling of the economy.

Take a look at Chris Christie. He isn’t big on social issues. He is going to save NJ taxpayers all kinds of money by cutting funding to Planned Parenthood.

Thats a win win situation.

I AM concerned.. If Obamas popularity keeps dropping as it has, it would be very easy, even at the mid-term elections to take control of the Senate.. However, the nominations of social conservative radicals like O’Donnell and Sharron Angle put that in big jeopardy.. Both of them have made radical statements on social issues in the past which their opponents can use against them. Neither of them is in touch with mainstream America on social issues.
The Dems need to be beat on FISCAL ISSUES as that’s where they are weak..

In 2007, you were rooting for Guliani.

In 2008, you thought McCain was the best choice.

In 2010, your panties are in a bunch over Sarah Palin, Christine O'Donnell and Sharon Angle.

You're overwhelmingly concerned.

Another concern poster? The Tea Party is gaining steam. Recent primaries showed that to be true.

What tea party endorsed candidate has proposed big government regarding social issues? You mention Palin but she has never endorsed a nanny state, unless you think banning gay marriage and abortion is “statist.” Sarah has stated that pot is no big deal, she is hardly a statist, and neither is Odonnell.

The abortion issue is about civil rights for the unborn, that is not nanny state, that is protecting God given rights. We all recognize the right to privacy, but our right to privacy does overide another’s right to life, and that is what the supreme court ignored in roe v wade. The focused on privacy and ignored whether or not the unborn have inherent rights of their own.

Total ignorant nonsense.

A completely divorced from reality assessment.

Thee is NO “fading” of popularity of the tea parities in any polling data.

More of the arrogant "Whaaa I want only 100% of what I want in politics" childish whining from the 100%er club.

Grow up children, nothing in life but God is perfect.

Sitting on your ass whining day in and day out because life isn't perfect is the behavior of petulant children, not rational adults.
