Should Stephen Colbert be indicted for lying under oath to Congress?

Should Stephen Colbert be indicted for lying under oath to Congress? That’s what some observant watchers are now smartly asking after Comedy Central’s brutally unfunny comedian—but full-time and major-league clown—Stephen Colbert made a complete mockery of Congress by "testifying" in character and under oath to a House subcommittee on immigration. It was an unpardonable outrage that Colbert—and his unfunny, Bill O’Reilly-imitating schtick—would willfully make himself a party to what amounted to a waste of taxpayer money, a waste of Congress’ hearing time, and a total disrespect of the oath to tell the truth one takes before Congress.

Is it dumber to invite Colbert before Congress than to have Franken in it?

If you’re going to indict anyone how about the idiot who invited him to testify before the committee in the first place?

No. Why would we charge him for doing exactly what CONGRESS called him there to do.

The archetectural structure of the Congressional chamber shown on TV speaks volumes: Those Congressional clowns are seated around the room on their THRONES far higher than the U.S. citizens who speak to them--so the clowns can look down their noses at the serfs! From their EXHAULTED AND PRIVILEGED POSITION AS THE RULING CLASS!

I'd like to see Joe Average appear before them and insist on a seat on a platform higher than the Congresspersons--to show the self-annointed RULING CLASS that they are SERVANTS of the Average American Citizen--not MASTERS!

On the other hand--if the American people are sufficiently satisfied with having a RULING CLASS and to being its serfs--then that's the reality!

People get the kind of government they deserve, and vice versa.

I agree with you. We can use that as an example of the left treating important issues like a joke. They call in a jester to entertain them as issues are ignored. Beautiful win.

Was he even placed under oath? Don’t see lies in his idiotic opinion rant. This isn’t the avenue to follow. Instead, go after the rep who invited his testimony. Ask her to resign her chairmanship for bringing shame on the committee. This was remarkably poor judgment and it wouldn’t hurt to say that a few thousand times. Any official rebuke will be relatively mild but the embarrassment to her will be hugh. As for Colbert, take no bleeping notice of him. His fans will still love him but the rest of the world now knows he’s a jerk of the highest order. Don’t do anything to diminish that.

He is a hero.

If he's your hero, please reimburse me my portion of the $100,000 in taxpayer dollars an hour he wasted. He's nothing but scum and unfunny scum at that. Always has been. Always will be.

I have not even read a story about this issue, but doing what I hear he did before Congress deserves jail-time.

Let it go at that. It’s already a huge win.

Epic FAIL, actually.

The dominant issue of this weekend's news cycle should have been the Coates/DoJ testimony, not Colbert's bit of political theater.

His testimony certainly establishes a defense against contempt charges for anyone in the future.

No. If anything Congress should be indicted for making a mockery of our country and the Constitution.

The black panther voting rights intimidation case isn’t going away. They may have deflected attention for a short time but the BP story has legs.

Please! Have we not wasted enough time, money and resources on this clown yet?

Let’s just keep beating this one into the ground too...maybe someday we’ll get to the bottom of it...

Th one major thing Colbert conveniently overlooked is illegal aliens are illegal..
He rides right over this "illegal" thing..

Illegal aliens are illegal and literally EVERYTHING they do is illegal EVEN IF its legal... then its still illegal to do it.. Eating, drinking, working, paying taxes or not, being happy being sad is ALL ILLEGAL to illegal aliens..

WHY?... because their illegal..

A swift censure for the member of Congress who had him testify and then take action against Colbert for lying under oath and contempt of Congress. Sad that Colbert's antics are hardly much different then Al Franken’s blather on the Senate floor.

"Caligula used the whole horse. American voters only elect part of the" horse "to Congress"

You got that right, B! And it's way past time to

KICK THE WHOLE DAMN GANG OF 'EM OUT!

ESTABLISH TERM LIMITS!

AMEND THE CONSTITUTION TO: "CONGRESSMEN/WOMEN SHALL BE EXEMPT FROM NO LAW THAT BINDS OTHER CITIZENS."

Eliminate Congress' LAVISH health care plan (They can find health insurance the same way the rest of us do.)

Eliminate Congress' LAVISH retirement plan (Make 'em serve for at least 20 years before they can retire on a pension--and limit terms.)

Eliminate Congress' travel allowances. They can pay for their own travel expenses.

Those will do for a start.

The committee members (at least Zoe) should return the favor by going on Colbert’s show.

According to your posting history, you either are Marc Schenker or his domestic partner. All you post is all Marc Schenker, all the time.

Please stop pimping Marc Shenker. If you think Marc has something to say, just post it in full. One sentence teasers are not cool.
