The Normandy School Board voted unanimously Friday to name its new elementary school in Pine Lawn after President Barack Obama.
"If you put all politics aside, he exemplifies the American dream," said School Board President Cozy Marks. "You can be whatever you want to be and whatever you put your mind to and work for, and that's what we want our students to keep in mind and strive for."
Marks said Obama's name was submitted by students to a special board committee overseeing the new school project. The district had asked for name suggestions from all members of the school community.
The president beat out Wellston native Ella Priest. Priest, whose name will be attached to the school's new media center, was an educator in the Normandy district, Marks said.
"This was also a very good candidate because it described the unity we are trying to build between Wellston and Normandy," he said...

is it not proper to wait until the president has passed away? this is just wrong...
I have a motto for them;
Failure is always an option and should be the first choice.
What the new name is: FAILURE?
What has this Turd ever done deserving of a honor?
“School Board President Cozy Marks.”
Let me guess.....
What has this Turd ever done deserving of a honor?
Given Turds a bad name, I suppose.
Totally inappropriate to name anything after a living person.
It smacks of the cult of personality. We do not carry pictures through the streets of living leaders. We do not put them on stamps. We do not name buildings after them.
The simple fact that these people don’t realize how inapproriate it is just shows how out of touch they are with Americanism.
The Barry Soetoro Special Education Center.
I dunno. Sort of has a nice ring to it.
Well, I guess the board could say that they like to name schools after Nobel Peace Prize winners. After all, Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. Many public places are named after those winners, though I think most are named as memorials after people have died.
There are a few other schools which have been named for Obama. I too always thought that schools or other public facilities were not to be named after living people, and certainly not a public official who is still in office.
Yep. It is incredibly stupid to name anything after the living. What if he resigns in disgrace?
This is certainly not about the content of character.
I guess he hasn't been paying attention to Obama's version of unity.
To the commie ‘RATS, Obama is a god. I feel bad for the kids who have to put up with this kind of crap from those “teaching” them.
>>>”You can be whatever you want to be and whatever you put your mind to and work for, and that’s what we want our students to keep in mind and strive for.”
Well, then, you have to allow the students to use their cellphones when it comes to exams so that they can benefit from the foreign help. That’s how Dear Leader did it!
I think that was a poorly-written sentence about Ella Priest. There’s a lot of fighting between Normandy and Wellston, and she should have been the choice for the school name.
