Well, somebody got a job with a womens studies degree. When Jaime Grant got a phone call suggesting that she leave behind two decades worth of social-justice work in Washington and move to Kalamazoo College, in Michigan, which enrolls about 1,400 students, she said the caller must have the wrong person, Michael Sewall writes in the September 10, 2010 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education. But after hearing more about the job offerto lead Kalamazoos new Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadershipand visiting the campus, she decided on a big change of scenery.
When she talked with Kalamazoo students during her visit, she said, there wasnt a student who was there who wasnt really thinking about service work. The creative possibilities and potential to have an impact won her over.
Ms. Grant, 49, has long focused on the goals promoted by the Arcus center: leadership development and social justice. Most recently, she was the Policy Institute director at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and she has spent more than 20 years working on womens rights and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues. After she starts at Kalamazoo this month, she says, shell be able to dig deeper into social-justice issues and help train people interested in those causes to become leaders.
Any time somebody is in a job they love, its hard to pull them away, Michael A. McDonald, Kalamazoos provost, who was part of the search committee, told Sewall. People seemed to have preconceived notions of what a city like Kalamazoo could do on the social-justice front.

Gives the term “useless bread gobbler” new meaning.
Screw reality, we gonna git us some social justice.
If Ann Arbor is the heart of liberalism in Michigan, K-zoo is the bile duct. Detroit is the rectum of course.
I graduated from Western Michigan in the 80s. K College students used to come to our parties. They were, for the most part, weird and creepy.
More like ‘oxygen thief’.
You nailed it. My son got an offer from the football coach to interview there. We showed up and some young counselor interviewed my son. On his cork board behind him he had a sign, “Friends don’t let friends vote for BUSH” We walked out and told the coach we were not interested. So he went to MSU and is now a Dr. LOL Screw ‘em!
Thank you, Kalamazoo, for taking this self-absorbed narcissist from my city. Frankly, we have way too many of that sort already, so it’s only fair that you take a few.
People in Kalamazoo are generally weird. I lived there for 9 months, talk about unfriendly. However, plus side was a nice park near our apt. and a great liquor store/deli, and most of all Campus Kitchen.
We’ve already got far more than our fair share. She should have gone to Alaska or something.
This is where new generations of Marxists are trained, almost every conceivable poisonous strain of liberalism/Marxism is spawned from colleges like this. They should simply outlaw these type of classes or pull their federal funding, this is another example of where Republicans have rolled over for the left, you pull out the rug from under them when you have the power to do it. Crush their Marxist machine!
Another MIAA school changing their status from “liberal arts college” to “progressive arts college”.
Alma, 1981
I went wmu too (1992 grad). I lived by kzoo college. They weren’t only creepy but hyper-pretentious too.
I am glad you appreciated it, but Michigan has enough narcissist liberals as is. We are even putting one from Canada up in public housing.
My mistake. I didn’t think things through. Given Michigan’s unemployment rate, I should have figured out you all were being run by liberals already.
