Tax Me More: A Modest Proposal
American Thinker ^ | 9/13/10 | Bruce Walker

Huge numbers of these "rich" Americans are leftists, and yet these rich leftists try to reduce their tax burden as much as possible. If the best government policy towards wealth is to tax it heavily, then why don't leftists lead the way? Isn't this sort of leadership -- leadership by example -- the most effective?

Mike Huckabee, when he was Governor of Arkansas nine years ago, created the "Tax Me More Fund," which allowed those leftists in the state who felt that tax rates should be higher to send a check to this fund, which would be used to help the general revenue crisis that Arkansas was facing at the time. Huckabee did not have the support of the Arkansas legislature. He did not even have the support of Republicans in the legislature. But he acted anyway.

That is BRILLIANT!

And I will use it as a handy-dandy trump card:

If you think “we” should pay more in taxes, start by increasing your own taxes. Fill in the “I didn’t pay enough” amount, then click the “file confidentially” box if you are a REAL liberal.

If you don’t chip in your fair share, then you are just a poseur.

I’ve always believed the Republicans are missing an easy attack on the President. Every time he gives one of his soak the rich speeches the response should be, “Your gross income in 2009 was $5.6 million. You paid 32% in Federal Taxes. Was 32% ‘fair’ or should you have paid more? If so, what should you have paid and why don’t you voluntarily write a check to the government for that amount?”

Likewise, I’d like to see someone do man on the street interviews in the manner of Jay Leno. Ask people if they believe the rich should pay more in taxes. When a citizen is found who wants the rich to pay more ask, “There is a prominent wealthy person who earned $5.6 million in 2009. How much should that person have paid in federal taxes?” When the citizen says “half” or $4 million, the questioner should then tell the citizen the name of the wealthy person was Barack Obama. I’d love to see the reaction on film.

massachusetts has a voluntary option allowing those who so desire to pay the old income tax rate that was outrageously lowered by referendum.

as one can imagine, the response has been overwhelming. even kerry opts to pay the lower rate as he snivels along demanding more taxes on the rich.

thinking too much about the leftist mental dichotomy in regard to tax policy can make ones head explode.

best i can determine, their policy boils down to ‘screw the other guy’.
