State Gains Exception from Law on Military Ballots
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative ^ | 11 Sep 2010 | John Semmens

Posted on 09/11/2010 2:19:29 PM PDT by John Semmens

The failure of military ballots to be mailed out in a timely manner during the 2008 election inspired Congress to enact legislation requiring a minimum of 45 days between the mailing of ballots and election day. It was believed that this would provide enough time for most overseas troops to cast votes that could be counted. The Obama dministration, however, just granted an exemption to the state of Wisconsin—allowing military ballots to be sent only 32 days prior to election day.

Attorney General Eric Holder defended the exemption calling the “effort of state election officials to conduct elections as they see fit is a higher priority than trying to ensure the voting rights of military personnel. The probability that the missing military votes would be decisive is small. Therefore, states should not be encumbered by a futile effort to have these votes counted on election day.”

Holder also questioned whether military balloting is at all appropriate. “Our country has always prided itself on ‘civilian control,’” Holder argued. “It is not at all clear to me why anyone in uniform is permitted to vote. Allowing soldiers to take political positions contrary to those of the ‘commander-in-chief’ seems like it would undermine iscipline. A soldier’s duty is to carry out his orders, not be encouraged to question them.”

Eric Holder just cannot be the subject of ridicule often enough. Barry and a lot of the others are bad but Holder is the biggest America hater of them all.

I agree 100%, one of those guys that flies under the radar but has a history with Clinton and stinks like a Puerto Rican terrorist enabler.

This guy's stink pegs the stink-o-meter and I'm tired of having to watch them run anything government related. We need a cleansing in this country like never before imagined, and the Democrat Party should be tops on the list. Seriously, or the republic may not stand.

Why should we expect 'moderate' muslims to condemn radicals jihadists when we can't even get the Democrat Party to purge themselves of Socialist/Communists? Both are a threat to America, if you ask me.

And both should 'reform', if you will. If not, it's gonna get ugly, I guarantee. Survival isn't something you forfeit lightly and these bastards had better be ready.

While Holder is at fault here, he’s not the only one. I’d blame many states for putting the primaries very close to the 45-day deadline. Even though the law was enacted in 2009, many states simply ignore or perhaps already decided to have their primaries in mid September. The latest state to do so is Hawaii. There, the election chief is under fire now because the state legislature was considering to change the primary date (Sept 18), but the election chief assured them that Hawaii would get a waiver. In light of WI case, he probably was right (that HI would get the exception), but with the expense of sending the ballots a bit late.
