More Shenanigans in the Alaska Republican U.S. Senate Primary Race
Red County ^ | August 30th, 2010 | Thomas Lamb

Posted on 08/30/2010 2:07:40 AM PDT by theanchoragedailyruse

This evening, I made a call to the same source who told me on August 25th, about the rumor that there were 1000 ballots missing.

It seems that there is some concern on how high the percentage is in the returned absentee ballots.

Some number crunching has been going on and in the story published yesterday by the Anchorage Daily News, the number of the returned absentee ballots and questioned ballots stood at 23,472 with more ballots coming in.

There were more allegations by the Joe Miller campaign of ballot-counting monkey business on Saturday as the absentees continue to pour into the Alaska Division of Elections. State elections officials now say there are 23,472 ballots to process, with more coming, and the first count set for Tuesday.

Given what has transpired with a recent filing of possible election tampering as told by Dan Riehl, I would say that the concern on how many absentee ballots returned is valid.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that 13,740 ballots have been returned out of 16,000 absentee ballots requested. That is slightly over 85% of the absentee ballots being returned with a 27.5% voter turn-out.

The source said that percentage of returned ballots is unprecedented in a state-wide election and he had mentioned "walk-in absentee" ballots. There was some confusion on the topic of "walk-in" absentee ballots.

I had questioned if it meant early voting, but that number is 663 votes and that is included in the 23,472 ballots.  If the Alaska Division of Elections had received absentee ballots by people walking in and picking them up, that would seem odd.

As for the 85% being unprecedented and the "walk-in" absentee ballots discussed, I will be checking that with the Alaska Divisions of Elections to question both.

And taking into account the high percentage of returned absentee ballots, I question who started the rumor on the missing ballots and the motivation behind the rumor.

The rumor was started on August 25th, the day after the election. As reported by the WaPo on August 26th, NRSC lawyer Sean Cairncross was headed here and was going to be staying several days.

It was reported later that Cairncross left Saturday, August 28th, after being here 72 hours (3 days).

These rumors start with a purpose and can be part of a ruse, but given the behavior of the Murkowski observer as told in Dan Reihl's post, I'd say the NRSC had better stay out of this primary if they don't want the local dirt on their shoes turning into mud this political season.

We had better be willing and eager to beat the living shit out of them or else we will lose.

With Obama in office and the Dims running Congress we are basically a banana republic right now.

The fix was already in.
The GOP RINO elite fav Murkowski won the minute she lost.

Give her a hug when you see her Al Franken;the GOP RINO elite can steal primaries just as well as you guys steal elections.

It is no longer possible for the United States to have fair elections. The process is completely corrupted.

the number of the returned absentee ballots and questioned ballots stood at 23,472 with more ballots coming in.

And what in the heck are 'questioned ballots'? If 16,000 absentee ballots were mailed out, then they are claiming 7,472 'questioned ballots' exist. There is room for endless cheating in that number of ballots.

I know of no special relationship other than they protect their own.

The last thing these country club Republicans want is someone to upset the applecart, like Miller, Angle, Rand Paul, Christine O’Donnell, Buck, etc. They want no one around who will question them.

Think about the gig guys like Cornyn have: They can bluster and complain about “things” giving them cred at home, all the while letting all this vile legislation barely get through. They get to keep their Senate “buddies” on our dime, and continue to spend our dime. All the while they lament that they just didn’t have enough votes to stop it.

Nice work, if you can get it.

It’s Lisa’s senate seat!

Her daddy bought and paid for it and she inherited it fair and square.

The questioned ballots are provisional ballots. They're the ones where people claim to be republicans and are not on the list or claim to be registered but not on the list. Since the SOS is a republican and a friend of Sarahs I wouldn't be concerned about them. I would be concerned with the fact that here are so many absentee ballots being returned.

Personally, I don't think anything should ever be announced until all ballots are in and counted.

I very much hope my “twitch meter” was wrong. I don’t trust most members of Congress. Thought I should stir the pot just in case something came up.

This is the kind of crap that will create a 3rd party and end the GOP.

Great job, GOP. You care more about cronyism than the country.
