Lauer to Laura Bush: Is It 'Painful' to Be in New Orleans, Since So Much Blame Is Laid At Your Husband's Feet?

Today co-anchor Matt Lauer traveled to New Orleans, on Friday, to mark the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and interviewed the likes of former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, former FEMA Director Mike Brown, current Democratic Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, but saved any sort of direct shots at George W. Bush for his interview with Laura Bush.

“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's”.

We ignore the teachings of Christ at our peril. For many years now we have rendered the sacrament of matrimony unto Caesar and his tax collector. It seemed to make sense. Why shouldn’t the state assist in the upbringing of the next generation of citizens? If parents or any married couple benefited, what is the harm?

The harm was allowing Caesar into the realm of God. Now we are witnessing the destruction of the cornerstone of human society, the nuclear family. An evolving and shifting definition of marriage and family now includes two mommies, two daddies, just a single mom or, worst of all, a mom and a government check. Where will this end with Caesar defining the sacraments?

There is a great furor in the land over “Gay Marriage” but it is a battle already lost. It was lost the moment we chose to render under Caesar that which was God’s. And we did it for the sake of a few pieces of silver.

Gay marriage is recognized only be Caesar, not by God. Learn to cope.

And of course the President takes the blame in any situation, as we can see now with the new president.

What the heck is she talkin' about??

Why is the obvious so difficult for some on this thread to get?

Mrs. Bush couldn't control Lauer's BS question, and she knew he'd love to get her to jump ugly on it, so what does she do? She basically says "Oh, of course you're right, it was all George's fault, just like how everything going on now is all Obama's."

She's sticking it to him just when he thought he was being so clever--she's saying "If you're gonna lay Katrina at George's feet, you have to lay everything happening now at Obama's. Now you have a nice day, you simple-minded wuss."

Do people need diagrams for this kind of thing? How do they get through life day to day without understanding that there's more to communication than just the words on the surface?

Mrs. Bush may have some moderate to liberal positions, and I guess that makes her evil to some. To me it means W., who was center-right, was married to an independent woman--there are such women of all political stripes. Wake up, there ARE such people in this world, and in her case, she shut her damned yap because she knew while she was First Lasy (unlike with the First Ladies who directly preceeded and followed her) it's not about her.

I wouldn't vote for Mrs/ Bush with her politics. She's not running for anything.

Why is this so hard for some people to grasp?

It's not hard for MOST people on this thread to grasp her wit.

Unfortunately, this will go right over the heads of MOST of the people who watch the Today show. They'll take her for what she says, not implies.

I’m sure you’re right, I think 90% figured it out.

Some people put everything through a political filter—”If someone less conservative said it, it’s automatically wrong, even if they’re saying the sky is blue!”

People need to observe reality, not sit there and think “This person disagrees with me on abortion, so now I must see everything she does as evil.” It destroys one’s ability to observe accurately.

While I wholeheartedly disagree with 95% of what Laura has stated are her personal beliefs on a variety of issues I don’t think it warrants slamming the job she did as first lady. I don’t know how anyone - especially considering our current FLOTUS - can say that Laura Bush wasn’t a good First Lady. Did I miss something that she did while her husband was in office?

Honestly, in light of her personal views (which really do make her a liberal) I’d say she did a fantastic job of keeping her mouth shut and doing her job as the Hostess of the White House... Again, look at Michelle Obama and then tell me how anyone could think Laura did a ‘bad job’...

They are not going to let us forget Katrina until Obama is no longet the president! If we have a bad hurricane, you just watch—we will hear more about Katrina than ever in order to keep those in TV land from complaining about the job “O” does, if it’s Not up to Par!!!

Ib, you are correct!

Way back in the 2000 campaign, Laura the liberal informed the media that she was pro-choice. She was not going to make a big deal out of it because she knew that her husband had to please those backward Bible thumpers to get elected.

But her message was clear — her husband would not be a hard core rightwinger once he became president.

And he wasn’t.

That looks like a stiletto she's using.

Fine!!!! If it is NOT MY BUSINESS, why do I have to recognize their relationship as a MARRIAGE? Why is this something ANYONE should care about?
HMMMM?

If anyone saw New Orleans before Katrina, they would know that it was always a third world country - an utter disgrace to this country and the municipality...
NO EXCUSE!!!

Oh, what a dopey comment...
The Bushies have always been “elitist Republicans” and have tried to get along by going along...and most conservatives tolerated it.
These days, the choice is much more clear...we are facing the total irradication of our way of life as Americans...and total domination by the state.
There’s no room of equivacation...it’s do or die now.

We can’t cope with sin. We can only ask for forgiveness and sin no more.

Good for you! Exactly right, to my mind.
I am tired of these campaigning candidates who spout what they need to say to get elected, their spouses stay under the radar with their own opinions, we sustain ourselves with cultural “crumbs” from them during their terms, then when they leave, their spouses shove their anti-conservative beliefs in our faces...kind of a nah-nah-nah moment...
I AM SICK OF IT!
No more compromise on my vote!

Matt you are an idiot. The MSM does not think for themselves and haven’t for years. This type of question just proves that they are more interested in gotcha journalism instead of actually doing their jobs. Whatever they pay those people it is too much.
